Vehicle Detail
We have for sale here a 1955 Chevrolet 210 4 door sedan. I guess its time to pass this on to someone else due to my lack of time to tinker with it. I know the term "barn find" is tossed around alot these days. Seems any heap that sits in the garage long enough to gather some dust is rolled out and declared a super rare "barn find". I believe this car defines the term "barn find". This car was damaged in an accident in 1970, it was then pushed into a warehouse where in 2013 after being parked there 43 years it was rescued after the building was sold. It has 45759 genuine miles. It has the original owners manual, warranty booklet and heater hang tag along with a service record going back to 3000 miles when for some reason it had the plugs replaced and valves adjusted. The last completed entry was 4/29/1969 when it had 44311 miles. This car has always been within 50 miles of where it was bought new in Shenandoah, Iowa on June 4th 1955 equipped with a 265 V-8 / powerglide, a push button radio being the only option. Paint code 605 India Ivory top with Seamist Green bottom, interior trim 504. VIN shows a January 1955 build at the Kansas City, Missouri plant. It has a clear title and current plates and registration. This car does have top damage. Myself, I like the old survivors and was going to hammer and dolly it out the best I could, add filler till smooth and just paint the top, leaving the rest in its excellent patina. It also has a dent in the drivers side front fender as you can see in the pictures. All the doors open and shut just fine except for the passenger side front door which as shown the pictures is down a little in the back and needs some adjustment as it closes hard. As far as rust there is a hole in the passenger side front fender about the size of a finger tip and there is a very small line of rust in the drivers side rear wheel lip and an area on the drivers side inside trunk wall. All of these areas are clearly shown in the pictures. Floor pans, trunk pan, body braces, inner rockers all have some surface rust but are incredibly solid, even better than the pictures show them to be. Outer rockers, tail pan beneath the trunk lid are just as solid and original as they show. The picture of the back of the top shows a dust line across it where I had it covered up in case you were wondering why it looked kind of funny. Also I have all the windshield and rear glass trim as well as the Chevrolet script that is missing from the drivers side front fender. What I have done with it since I got it: Replaced the oil and filter, found a set of correct size excellent near new tires and had them mounted, balanced and new valve stems. There are six wheels that came with it as it had a pair of snow tires mounted on correct wheels, that were the correct color and even had the original stripe on them. I would guess that the extra wheel was ordered with the car. I pulled the distributer out and primed the oil pump. I pulled the valve covers off to see that oil was getting to the top side of the heads and it was increbily clean inside the valve covers, on top of the heads, looked like new. I cleaned the valve covers off and as you can see they too look like new. Bear in mind this is original paint, this is not somebodys rattle can job, the radiator support, the horns just shine where I wiped them off. Again this is unmolested original done by the General back in the day. The radiator has had a pretty bad leak and it would need recored or replaced. I installed a new fuel tank and sender, and cleaned some on the outside body as it was incredibly dusty. The windshield that is sitting in it is not the correct one and does not go with it. The rear glass will work just fine but it is EZI while the rest of the glass is clear. I do believe I have a line on a windshield and clear back window I will pass on to the new owner. I have new rubber channels for the front and rear. I did have the engine firing with a little gas down the carb but since I have had the distributer out it needs the timing set and I haven't yet reinstalled the fuel filler neck. There is no battery that comes with it. I had one brake drum off and the brake shoes and hardware looked to be in excellent condition. There are no brakes as there is no brake fluid in the master cylinder although it doesn't seem the be crusted up like some you see that have sat for a long time. The interior is original "sat for 43 years" dirty. I wiped the door panels with a damp rag and they will clean up like new. Seats will need some heavy duty cleaning and do have some wear in places. The trunk holds an original wheel and tire spare, a beautiful original jack and base as well as - get this - a can of Trop-Artic motor oil and filler neck wrapped up in a newspaper from December 1962. Folks this car is like a time machine. I have owned 50+ 55 - 57 Chevys since 1977. I really believe this is a special car and needs to find a good home with a family that has the time and resources to do some tinkering, get it fixed up and back on the road and enjoy it. I would like to hang on to it but I just don't have the time and have other projects that I guess are a little more dear to me. It could possibly be for sale locally and this listing may end at any time. Strong preference would be given to a local prospective buyer that would take the time to stop by and check it out in person. I am starting the bid at one single penny so anybody should be able to join in the bidding. I would possibly be open to negotiation with the high bidder if by chance the reserve is not met. If you are the type that would take a car like this a stuff a big block in it, lower the suspension and paint it bright orange PLEASE, pretty please do not bid. It is important to me to find it a good home with someone that likes it for what it is. That being said I am open to any questions, can take a clear picture of any area you want me to, and can be available for anyone to check it out in person. I MAY give out my phone number on request but PLEASE be incredibly over the top interested in it before asking for my phone number. I stay very busy and don't have time to yak and shoot the bull with dreamers and tire kickers. $100 deposit via Paypal within 24 hours of auctions end. Balance and car picked up within 20 days. That should give anybody plenty of time to make arrangements. Car must be paid in full with 100% cleared funds before it leaves here. If you show up and don't like it or think I misrepresented anything I will fully refund your $100 deposit. If you don't show up / make excuses the deposit is non refundable. Good luck bidding and I have my fingers crossed as well that I can find it a good home. On Aug-06-14 at 14:54:37 PDT, seller added the following information: Ok, little doubt this is going to find a new home here. Anybody that wants to talk in person about it e-mail me your phone number and a good time to call and I will call you. If you want to see more pictures tell me what you want to see pictures of, I really think that I have covered most of it and have ran out of ideas of what to take a picture of.
