Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is our 1972 cougar. The car had a professional restoration done 15 years ago. The car has been sitting in storage for the past 10 years and was not driven more than 2,000 miles during that time. The car has been adult driven its whole life. The Engine & Transmission are still in their original condition from the factory, they have not been rebuilt or modified. The car still rides smooth and straight down the road. The Good... The car had new green paint, new rear quarters, new door skins, new front fenders, all chrome refinished, and new convertible top (with rear glass) done 15 years ago. The dark green paint on the sides of the car still look fantastic, painted 15 years ago, so if there was any rust, anywhere, you would see it by now. Front and rear bumpers are just beautiful! Both door panels are in great shape, no issues in arm rests area, however, a small tear has happen in the passenger's top door panel (see pic). Solid body and floor. All turn signals and brake lights work along with the power top going up and down with no problems. The 351 engine still pulls hard. The tonneau cover is in perfect shape, seems like it just needs to be stretched out a bit in warm sun. It was not on during storage, sitting inside the car's back seat. The yellow mark on the rear seat is just the reflection of the sun from the rear view mirror. The back seat is in great condition with no rips, tears, or stains. Carpet is in good shape as well. The Not Too Bad... Because the car has sat for the past ten years there are some known issues. The engine needs a complete tune-up with new plugs & wires, belts & hoses. However, a mechanic said the engine and transmission operate with no known issues, both oils are clean and the transmission shifts perfectly, the engine coolant is a nice green with no rust. I did have to replace the pressure hose on the power steering unit this past week. Passenger rear window goes up and down very slowly. Rear brakes are in good shape, the front brakes have only 20% life left in them, and a front brake job is due at some point in the near future. The seats in front have the stitches worn out in the fabric areas that held them together. Don't know if an upholstery expert can bring them back together again or not. The hood and top part of the doors (where the edge faces up and mirror is mounted) has areas of fogging in the paint (haze) caused by a wet car cover that was left on the car while it was parked outside of its storage area for a few weeks. Look at the picture of the hood, you will see the haze running up along the center of the hood and on other spots here-and-there. The hood should be re-painted again for a complete clear and glossy shine. I do not know if a professional buffing and detailing will remove the haze. The dash has cracks in it, along with the steering wheel ring. The top 2 inches of the gas pedal has broken off. The factory AM/FM radio works fine but the driver's side door speaker does not work. The AC compressor is not frozen up and works fine but does not blow cold air. I believe all the Freon has leaked out of the system. The body on the driver's side has a few door dinks in it, the largest of them is on the driver's door. The passenger side has a few small dinks here and there, other than that, both sides of the car are very straight and solid! And The Ugly... The trunk, where the water issue from a wet car cover ruined the finish about 5 years ago, definitely needs to be stripped down and re-painted. We tried a buffer to see if it would help at all, but the paint just absorbed the polishing compound and looks really bad now (see pics). Trunk area is solid though, even in the rain/drain channels. Driver’s side window will not go down (motor or switch?) and its door panel is a bit loose as well. The passenger rear window operational button, located in the driver side window master controls, has fallen out, but it is stored in the glove box. The driver's side lower door hinge needs new bushings put in, the door currently sags when opened. Passenger door is tight and firm. The car needs upper ball joints and an idler arm replaced at some point in the near future. The temperature sending unit needs replaced along with a few interior bulbs. The headlight high beam switch, located on the driver’s side floor, is frozen stuck and cannot turn on the high beams. It needs replaced. The underneath of the car has surface rust on it where the undercoating has worn off. In Closing… I have describe the car to the best of my knowledge. The car is 42 years old and there may be other issues that I’m not aware of to cover here in this full description. Please let me know of any other areas you need additional information about. If you’re a true Ford fanatic and are looking for a solid cougar to work from, this is it. It won’t take a lot of money and time to bring this car back to high-honors in car collecting. PLEASE... Do not bid on the car if you do not have the funds or logistics to get it shipped, this is not fair to other bidders who are interested in the car. On Aug-06-14 at 05:48:49 PDT, seller added the following information: Congratulations! The $4,000 reserve has been met. The highest bidder will get the cougar. Good luck!
