Vehicle Detail

History: The limited Edition 1989 Turbo Trans Am was originally conceived by Bill Owen of Pontiac, The 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am project was outsourced to PAS Inc. The team at Pas did most of the Turbo Trans Am development work. The V6 turbo engines were built by PAS at their California plant. From there they went to GM's paint in Van Nuys, to be installed into the GTA's on the F-body assembly line. The cars were then shipped back to PAS for their final assembly, testing,, and quality control. Interestingly The GTA chassis were selected at random, thus there is no correlation between the VIN number and the production sequence number. The actual number of cars to be produced was only 1,555 making them extremely rare and instantly collectible The 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am was offered as a complete package. each was white with tan interior. The only options were T-tops and Leather interior's. Although other Trans Am's were available with a CD player the Turbo T/A was only available with a Delco ETR AM/FM cassette with graphic EQ and redundant steering wheel controls. The 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am had the honor of being selected as the Official Pace Car of the 73rd Indianapolis 500, held on May 28, 1989. The three cars which did pace car duty were the first in the history of the Indianapolis 500 to do so with no performance modifications whatsoever. That means that the 1989 Trans Am Turbo was the only production car in history to be fast enough to run at the Indy as purchased off the showroom floor!!! What makes the 20th Anniversary Turbo T/A so special is that it is a complete mechanical package and not just some tape stripes. Starting with the engine Pontiac borrowed Buicks 3.8 Liter V6 Turbo from the fabled 1986-87 Grand National. The differences that exist between the TA motor and the GN version are different heads, necessary in order to squeeze the motor between the strut towers, that also have the added benefit of improved exhaust flow and combustion chamber design. Different pistons were required in order to maintain correct combustion chamber volume, ac ross-drilled crank, larger 12 inch GNX-style intercooler, specially designed stainless steel headers, higher-pressure Bosch 237 fuel pressure regulator, and a recalibrated engine control module. Rated at 250hp the engine actually produced 301 hp on the GM dynos. This magnificent example belongs to a friend of mine and I am listing it for him, He has owned it since 2001 and has kept it garaged and covered the entire time he has owned it. This car has only 1072 miles since new. This all original car is unrestored and is a true investment quality collector car. It is only 1 of 1324 built with both T-tops and Leather interior. It retains the 301 hp turbo charged V6 engine and automatic trans, power steering and power brakes, air conditioning power locks, power windows AM/FM Cassette stereo and power seats 1LE Racing Brake Package with 4 wheel disk brakes Original T-top Storage bags and all other factory features. This one of a kind car is very collectible and is like brand new and smells like new as well. They are only original and low mileage once. The tires and everything except the battery are original. There is hardly a scratch anywhere. It runs and drives like new. The interior is perfect and the rear cover works perfect. Don't let this car get away. It will only go up in value. These low mileage T/A's have been selling in the low 30's. This car can be purchased for a fraction of that. Feel free to call me at 334-393-8448 with questions.
