Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is our 1972 cougar. The car had a complete, professional, restoration 15 years ago. The car has been sitting in storage for the past 10 years and was not driven more than 2,000 miles during that time. The car has had no aftermarket parts or mods added to the car. It has been adult driven its whole life, with all factory parts still on the car. Rides smooth and straight down the road still. The Good... The car had new green paint, new rear quarters, new door skins, new front fenders, all chrome refinished, and new convertible top (with rear glass) 15 years ago. The dark green paint on the sides of the car still look fantastic, painted 15 years ago, so if there was any rust, anywhere, you would see it by now. Front and rear bumpers are just beautiful! Both door panels are in great shape, no issues in arm rests area, however, a small tear has happen in the passenger's top door panel (see pic). Solid body and floor. All turn signals and brake lights work along with the power top going up and down with no problems. The 351 engine still pulls hard. The tonneau cover is in perfect shape, seems like it just needs to be stretched out a bit in warm sun. It was not on during storage, sitting inside the car's back seat. The Not Too Bad... Because the car has sat for the past ten years there are some known issues. The engine needs a complete tune-up with new plugs & wires, belts & hoses. However, a mechanic said the engine and transmission operate with no known issues, both oils are clean and the transmission shifts perfectly, the engine coolant is a nice green with no rust. I did have to replace the pressure hose on the power steering unit this past week. Passenger rear window goes up and down slowly. Rear brakes are in good shape, the front brakes have only 20% life left in them, and a front brake job is due at some point in the near future. The seats in front have the stitches worn out in the fabric areas that held them together. Don't know if an upholstery expert can bring them back together again or not. The hood has some water issues (fogging?) in the paint caused by a car cover that was left on wet for 5 days while it sat outside for a short time. The hood may require professional buffing and/or repaint. The dash has cracks in it, along with the steering wheel ring. The top 2 inches of the gas pedal has broken off. The factory AM/FM radio works fine but the driver's side door speaker does not work. The AC compressor is not frozen up and works fine but does not blow cold air. I believe all the Freon has leaked out of the system. The body on the driver's side has some dinks in it, nothing too large. The passenger side has a few very small dinks here and there, very hard to spot them, other than that, both sides of the car are very straight and solid! The underneath of the car has surface rust on it where the undercoating has worn off, a wire brush will remove all loose scaling. And The Ugly... The trunk, where the water issue from a wet car cover ruined the finish about 5 years ago. Needs to be stripped down and re-painted. We tried a buffer to see if it would help at all, but the paint just absorbed the polishing compound and looks really bad now (see pics). Trunk area is solid though, even in the rain/drain channels. Driver’s side window will not go down (motor or switch?) and its door panel is a bit loose as well. The passenger rear window operational button, located in the driver side window master controls, has fallen out, but it is stored in the glove box. The driver's side lower door hinge needs new bushings put in, the door currently sags a little when opened. Passenger door is tight and firm. The car needs upper ball joints and an idler arm replaced at some point in the near future. The temperature sending unit needs replaced along with a few interior bulbs. The headlight high beam switch, located on the driver’s side floor, is frozen stuck and cannot turn on the high beams. It needs replaced. In Closing… I have describe the car to the best of my knowledge. The car is 42 years young, and there may be other issues that I’m not aware of to cover here in this full description. Please let me know of any other areas you need additional information about. If you’re a true Ford fanatic and are looking for a solid car to work from, this is it. It won’t take a lot of money and time to bring this car back to high honors in car collecting. The car is being sold locally as well and I reserve the right to end the auction early at any time.On Jul-12-14 at 05:24:39 PDT, seller added the following information: Please Note: The yellow mark on the rear seat is just the reflection of the sun from the rear view mirror. The back seat is in great condition with no rips, tears, or stains. On Jul-12-14 at 09:15:07 PDT, seller added the following information: Shipping: I will help with shipping the car as far as driving it to a close location where the truck can have an easier time of loading.
