Vehicle Detail
I have been a mechanic since I was 14 working at my dad's gas station. (1972 gas was under 40 cents a gallon.) I've always had my own Porsche's, rebuilding my first, a 1966 911 when I was 22. I worked as a Porsche mechanic for a year and operated my own shop for a couple of years too. When I was 25 I was offered a job to work as a technician for Lockheed Martin Space Operations on the Space Shuttle. I jumped at the chance and have worked in the defense industry ever since. I have restored many Porsche's since those early years - 911's, 914's, 944's, 928's and I currently have 3, This 911, a 996, and a 944 Turbo. It is a hobby I love. I am now a Quality Engineer for Northrop Grumman - Besides the space shuttle I have worked on the B-2 Bomber, Joint Stars, Zumwalt Destroyer, and The F-35. All this said in the hopes that you will be satisfied that I am an experienced Porsche mechanic and fanatic, highly qualified to have fully restored this beautiful 911 Targa. I've owned this 911 since the year 2000. I bought the car in Louisiana. The car was originally sold in Los Angeles to a serviceman who sold it in Louisiana. I partially restored this when I first bought it. The motor was good but it had some body damage on the drivers side. I repaired it and had it painted. (Yes, l do body work and paint too.) I drove it daily for many years until it broke a head stud. At the time I was relocating to Fort Worth Texas for work. In Texas I taught my son (who is now an aircraft mechanic on the F-35) how to rebuild a 911. We did everything necessary to do a perfect rebuild. The transmission was sent to my friend Greg Brown, Owner of Precision Motorwerks in Fullerton, CA for complete rebuild. I originally had planned to sell this car to my daughter, and with that in mind began the restoration, sparing no expense and cutting no corners. It took many years as time and desire allowed. (My daughter tired of waiting and bought a Lexas!) 5 year later most of the mechanical restoration was complete. I was again moving for a job promotion to MS. I couldn't get all of my cars moved to MS (had a 944 turbo and 928 s4) and left the 911at a friends until I could pick it up in a few weeks. What luck, as a hale storm hit and damaged the fronk lid and cracked the windshield. I restored the body and interior and repainted it in the original color Guards red. All trim and exterior parts were removed during the paint preparation and body seals were replaced when putting it all back together. Its a beautiful car! Here is what has been done and a list of the work performed. the car has just 3,000 miles on the restoration. Engine Numbers matching original engine / 2,953 miles since complete rebuild. Solid 1 piece hardtop & original foldable targa top. New Pyle Radio / CD player - Rockford Fosgate speakers What it needs and Misc Info It needs to be driven!! I just don't drive it much. Fire it up and run it every couple of weeks, but it sits in the garage most of the time since I usually drive the 996. No Rust and no oil leaks. I am in Lancaster, CA, (yes, another job transfer) the car is registered in MS and I have a clear Mississippi title. The seats need to be recovered. They are in fair condition (no missing foam or parts) and are the original tan leather. The A/C system is complete but not operational. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time as the car is for sale locally and on other web sites.
