Vehicle Detail
Vehicle is being offered at absolute auction with no reserve price. Vehicle was donated for sale to benefit a local Austin area charity. We have found in the past that eBay generally brings the proper market price, without needing a reserve. Top bidder will win the auction, no games. Please view our feedback section for a sample of the vehicles we have sold in the past. We've sold several nice vehicles of this caliber, all with exceptionally positive feedback. We are here to provide great customer service and a great item, honestly described to the best of our ability and knowledge. Our feedback speaks for itself! Lots of high resolution pictures and 2 Videos (Videos below photo section - if the videos don't show up, we have supplied links to the youtube video). Autocheck report also in pics section. Just scroll down! 1984 Mercedes 300CD Coupe, Diesel - 125k Original and true miles, with working odometer. - One owner as reported by AutoCheck (although from what we understand, car was transferred to a family member), respectfully beautiful for its age and a stunning and rare car. Immaculate and double-extra perfect AutoCheck report (See pictures for report), rated twice as good history as an above-average 300CD by AutoCheck! Clean, clean, clean, Donated to charity, Vehicle is in exceptional shape, drives great, but MAY require some mechanical TLC. See detailed description for more info on why I mention this. Please, please, PLEASE, read everything here so there are no surprises. We like for our sales to go as smoothly as possible, so ask questions BEFORE you bid. It is unacceptable for a buyer to show up on delivery day and be surprised about something that is clearly listed in the description. We are here to answer questions, so please ask away. Blue Texas title, clean. Please see Title section below for specifics regarding title transfer to you. It's an easy process and title is in our possession and ownership and ready to be transferred to you. Texas bidders, please contact us before bidding! We need to speak regarding taxes, fees and registration procedures since we have a wholesale vehicle license. We usually only sell to buyers that are out of state due to ease of transaction - in those cases, the title only needs to be signed by us and handed over to those individuals, but if you are registering the car in Texas, it is a different story. So, please contact us first so we can talk - We are willing to try and find a way to make everyone happy. BIDDING TERMS: If you have a zero feedback score, we ask that you email us PRIOR to bidding to introduce yourself. We do this simply because we have had experiences with less-than-forthright bidders who disappear after the auction is over, which only causes frustration and raises the bid on our real, human bidders with actual intent to complete the sale. We reserve the right to cancel bids on zero feedback bidders that do not follow through with this request. Description Below: This car is truly beautiful, A Texas car, title does show vehicle existed in California at some point in its life, but both are great regions to maintain a rust free car, and our mechanic finds no issues other than a questionable sound coming from the engine area. Might be potential trouble, might not be. (Video of running engine and sound are below) Please read further in engine section. Engine: This car starts up in a mere fraction of a second after the glowplug light turns off. A half-second turn of the starter gets her running, smooth and steady. No smoke. There is no engine vibration or shaking, but we notice that there is a rapping sound that does not appear to be within normal diesel noise. Sometimes it disappears or sounds negligible, other times it gets more obvious. Draw your own conclusion from the video we shot and provided (see videos below pictures), but we showed the car to 3 diesel mechanics and each one concluded something different: one said it was a "nailing injector", another said that it was possibly a valve or piston slap, and yet another said that it was a light knock. Sometimes it sounds like it is coming from the front of the engine, other times from the side and occasionally from the bottom. We cannot tell for sure, but with only 125k miles on such a bulletproof engine, its hard to imagine something major, although we are not a diesel expert by any means. The turbo works nicely, providing boost well, and engine operates without missing, without overheating and without shaking or hesitation. I have driven this car for over 200 miles and have not noticed any reduction or boost in noise. Temperature stays well in the normal range (see pic of temp gauge on dash, taken after a 15 mile trip). We leave this open to your judgement and interpretation. It could be something small or not. As with vehicles donated to charity, we do not spend extra money and resources to fix any issues other than having a mechanic give his opinion. We will be glad to entertain any inquiries regarding this noise. Transmission: Equipped with a nicely and properly shifting transmission. Typically, my experience with Mercedes diesels includes many transmissions that kick when going into gear, but not this car. It shifts when it is supposed to, it downshifts when it is supposed to, and there are no slips between gears. We have not noticed any real issues to be concerned about with this tranny. Fluid is nice and clear and not burnt looking. Roadworthiness: This car drives straight and true down the road, with no pulling, grinding, squeaking, or bouncing. Just a solid, tight car, in line with or better than what you would expect a lower mileage 300CD to drive like. I was quite impressed. Brakes are excellent, suspension is great as well. Air Conditioning: The A/C compressor comes on when requested, stays on, without noise or problems. Freon seems to be a normal level. As you Mercedes heads may know, A/C is not the 240 or 300's strong suit. Even properly working a/c on these cars can be JUST enough to keep you cool. With this said, this car has working a/c, and all buttons on the climate control work great, but it is not very cold. It is quite possible that you may need to have the expansion valve looked at and replaced. Even though all components are working, its just not as cold as I think it has the potential to be. However, all major components are present, and they all work. Body: This car was originally red and was painted black. There is no evidence of any bodywork being done to the car. No accidents, AutoCheck confirms this. Donor only wanted the color changed. The did a nice job, and sprayed black on the door jambs and also all other body parts under the hood and in the trunk. With this said, there are a couple small spots under the hood, near the firewall, where some red is visible (see pictures). Touch up paint would be enough to cover it. Body is nice and straight, with no real dings or dents to be seen, chassis is rust free, paint quality is good, there is good sheen and gloss, but the car could use a nice washing and waxing. I feel that some of the paint impurities from the car being parked outside under a tree, while waiting its turn for sale will be buffed out. Paint looks nice, but dont expect anything other than at-average or slightly above average. It looks good, still turns heads, and is a sharp color on this car, but it is not perfect, the pictures show the paint quite reasonably. From what I understand, black is the most desirable color on these cars. I frankly would have prefered red, but thats just me. Interior: The interior... oh, the interior. How beautiful. Really, it is quite a treat to sit inside a car this classic and marvel at the cleanliness. All power windows work, there are no stains on the seats, and everything seems original. There are no cracks on the dash, other than a hairline one on the edge of where the instrument cluster "hump" meets the flat part of the dash. It's really not visible unless it gets pointed out. Upholstery has plenty of life left, and by no means does it feel like the mb-tex material is going to crack or flake when you sit on it. I really have the give the interior a 9 out of 10. For a car this old, its exceptional. The only real thing I see is some sunfading on the top of the rear seats, below the rear windshield. It has not cracked or split, but the sun is starting to take its toll on it. Can be stopped with proper tinting or shielding. I do not believe that this car has been smoked in. It still smells like a Mercedes should. No funk, no gunk and no fries or candy between the seats. In fact, we never even needed to vacuum the interior. This car was owned by a caring person. Interior looks like a one owner car should look like. All features work, although the sunroof does not open. The switch does not even attempt to activate the sunroof. It appears that the sunroof motor is not getting any power. It could be the switch itself, or possibly a fuse. I will update this ad if I find out more. The sunroof is in closed position, and there are absolutely, positively no leaks. Tires: Tires are in great shape and look dependable. See picture. Electronics & Electrics: Again, all electronics and electrics work, other than the sunroof which was already mentioned. Most likely is a switch or power related issue like a fuse. Power windows are fully functional, front and rear, the cooling and blower fans work, all signals and lights are good, and we find no issues other than the sunroof.
