In the mid-1970s Swiss specialty car maker Franco Sbarro built under license from BMW a series of authorized factory recreations of the history-making 1938 328 Cabriolet. All were built using authentic BMW components, including a superb fiberglass reproduction body hand-crafted from BMW molds. Very few made it to American shores (10 to be exact) but all offered their owners the elegance and grace of the original with the practicality, power and performance of mid-60's/70's BMW technology, most were single carb, but in this case a peppy Dual Weber carbureted Inline-4 engine with dual exhaust, a 4 speed manual gearbox, all-BMW suspension and disc brakes, essentially a full BMW chassis and driveline. The car's old-world personality shines through in its classically curvaceous contours, rear-mounted spare tire, knock off wire wheels, running boards with chromed step plates and fold-down split windscreen. Complete with cut-down front-opening doors, the 328's open cockpit features Black wraparound upholstery, a leather wrapped steering wheel and black face gauges. This is a fun-to-drive factory recreation of the original 328, without the $500K+ price tag. This car is titled as a 1966 BMW and was built by the Sbarro factory in Switzerland over 40 years ago licensed by BMW. This car is very rare in that a total of 80 were made and in that 80 only 10 made it to the United States. This is believed to be the #2 car of 10 in the United States, it has recently had her serviced and is an absolute blast to drive down the road! Car needs absolutely nothing, just a new driver as we approach the Summer. The last one for sale sold for $55K+ auction fees totaling $60K+ in last year's Mecum Auction and mine looks way better with more original components and stronger engine. See the one sold via Mecum.com search 'BMW 328' & there is one other for sale in the UK currently for 40K Pounds,which translates to $65K USD, my reserve price is far less than both of these...I spoke to Mecum and this may be in the Pebble Beach Monterey auction in August if it doesn't sell prior.
