We're generally not the Corvette dealer that has the halo cars littering our inventory, but this year, things are-a-changin'!
Of all the Corvettes built over the years, everyone will unilaterally agree that the ZR1 stands above the rest. Dating back to 1970, the ZR1 debuted as the high performance Small-Block alternative to the Big Blocks of the day. That tradition continued in 1990, when the ZR1 returned as a 32-valve version of the existing 350ci LT1...and yes, still a small block. The C4-era ZR1's lasted only six model years, but accumulated a huge following.
This, no doubt, was a key factor in Chevrolet's decision to build another HiPo Small Block in 2009, dubbed the LS9. The LS9 was a reworked and supercharged version of the LS3 that made an astounding 638hp, and created an internet phenomena when it broke the lap record for a factory-built Corvette at the Nurburgring in 2012.
You can see that exact car on display at the National Corvette Museum…which, coincidentally, looks exactly like ours.
But this is no coincidence. Ours was the backup car for the Nurburgring test. That's right...and it has never been titled! Optioned by GM to be an exact replica of the record-breaking original, this ZR1 was provided to a Bowling Green employee shortly after the history-making lap was completed. He kept it in near-perfect condition, bringing it to shows across the nation for last few years. When he decided to sell it, a friend of ours (another dealer, again never titling it) jumped at the opportunity, realizing of course, the history that this car represents.
He promptly had it upgraded by RKT56 in Maryland with the following durability/longevity items:
- Lingenfelter HX 710hp kit (LPE HX710)
- Intercooler Brick Modification
- Full intake/SC snout porting/polishing
- Oil Catch-Can installed
- Custom, highly-conservative dyno-tested tune (615 rwhp)
The PDE Performance Package extends the fun-factor and makes this ZR1 even more rare; 1 of 184.
