Vehicle Detail

Front of a '62 Double Cab attached to the long bed of a '59 single cab. Double treasure chests, Safaris front and rear, grafted OG corner glass, walk-thru, new canvas on seat frames, new coconut pads & seat covers from Wolfsburg West, interior panels from Clara, Bakelite Suicide Knob on steering wheel, driver's side rocker needs paint but has been repaired nicely. KCW adjustable front beam, chrome five star wheels, tires have <600 miles on them, professionally installed Wiring Works custom harness, professionally installed new fuel tank, new German master cylinder, new rear drums, brake pads & hoses all the way around. Shaved front turn signals (have billet signals/wiring for bumpers). Rear & front bumpers w/towel bars included. Brand new seals, WW rubber front mat, big OG stop light for rear. New shocks. Decklid included. Our summer plans are beginning to gel which do not include many shows or street cruises. We're in the final throws of restoring a pretty neat '71 tin-top bay camper for our daughter. Taking that and our '63 Caravelle camper out camping a lot this summer. This is the only reason we're posting this bus.Would be a perfect advertising bus, cruiser or special show ride. We're just not going to be doing much of either and I'd be remiss if this bus doesn't get the attention it clearly has earned. Being an OG geek, I simply do not get this one out much. For those purists out there who are more interested in passing judgement than being cool, please heckle someone else; I fully recognize and accept this bus isn't for everyone. If you don't like the faux-tina, paint it the way you'd prefer. Happy to drive, or trailer, it to you for a reasonable, and agreed upon, fee. Should have more images over the next couple of days. This bus does need some additional attention, as most busses do, although the vast majority of the work and expense has already been done. You are undoubtedly intelligent and know the market for busses too, consider what the expense might be to duplicate a unique ride like this one. The welding alone is worth quite a bit, even if you could source a clean double cab front end and clean single cab long end. And OG glass all the way around, with the exception of the front of and rear safaris. The video on youtube under - '62 VW Double Cab - showcases just a few of the steps taken to finish the Loooong Doka. The video was posted by GetWheelHappy. The motor in the video is not included as it has been installed in our daughter's tin-top bay camper. To say it another way, this bus DOES NOT include a motor. Please also factor this into consideration when you place your bid. Please know this is a pretty unique bus, one that doesn't hit the market very often. Might be your cup of tea, might not be. Interested in making some changes? That is entirely your decision when you own it. We're more motivated in this bus going to someone who who appreciates, and recognizes, how special it truly is than asking an astronomical figure for the bus. That being the case, starting the auction at $.99 with NO RESERVE. Thanks for taking the time to read this auction and good luck with your bidding! On May-21-14 at 17:28:54 PDT, seller added the following information: NO RESERVE!! Nope, no buy-it-now price either. You get to determine what this unique bus is worth. Or possibly the guy placing the bid after yours gets to determine what it is worth. . . . A similar one recently sold for 24,000 Euro, with a motor but w/o the corner glass and associated work. Factoring in the USD/EUR conversion, that adds up to quite a lot. Cool ain't cheap. Please find the additional photos requested added to this auction. Trying to answer as many questions as possible that are being asked, best I am able with the schedule I have at the moment at any rate. For those of you with a trained eye, you'll see the custom metal work where the gates meet the cab, where the bed meets the cab and the rear of the cab under the rear safari where added reinforcement has been added. The drop gates are OG and do have some dings and dents which add irreplaceable character but are not rusty. This is not a Barrett-Jackson show ride, this is one with character and imperfections which is precisely what makes this bus so special and unique. The bed is clean and rust free although it also has a few dings, nothing major. Just dirt in the back of the bed, no rust. As such, it is sold as is. Pretty cool if you ask me. Although I'm happy to help with reasonable assistance, please do remember the Golden Rule still applies. The bus does come with the headlight buckets which are complete and function, glass et al. The rear bumper, complete with towel bars, also has solid splash pans on both sides which is pretty nice and speaks to the dry conditions this bus has spent most of it's life in over the years. The overall length is 3 feet longer than a stock bus. Please also make note of the repop bubble tail lights, pricey on their own. I'll try to capture the feel of what it looks like at night and take a picture when the weather improves a bit. Having the light from the back of the tail lights come out of the engine bay and through the outtie vents is something you've really got to see. Don't experience that very often either. Only one person has asked where the OG corner glass came from, kudos to that perceptive individual for sure! The entire rear portion of the DC, from the back of the rear windows, is from a 1958 23 window bus. How cool is that? The ultimate expression of reusing/repurposing of what once would have gone to the crusher. The grafting of the rear portion was expertly performed by J.J. @ KCW and S.H. out of Buckeye, both of whom are really nice guys, know their stuff and are are all around Rock Stars in the Dub scene. Extra credit on those points for certain. Add some ribs and a canvas cover over the back and you'd either have a super recognizable ride or the most perfect advertising vehicle imaginable. I have spoken with a handful of our local recreational dispensaries who seem to have interest in simply parking this in front of their shop to draw some business. Drive it to farmers markets and sell your pickled rhubarb if ya' want. Lots of options for the winning bidder. So confident in this bus, the work that has been done and its capabilities that I will hold to my word and drive, or tow, it to you for $1.45/mile one way. In order to drive it to you, you'd need to first have a motor of your choosing installed. A shipper is also worth consideration, as is towing it back to your place on your own. Winning bidder gets to choose how to handle that variable. Long front end of a '62 DC, long bed of a '59 SC and the back end of a '58 23w all of which is absolutely AWESOME! Looking forward to seeing who ends up with the winning bid, gonna be pretty cool. . . . . On May-25-14 at 13:37:42 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional requested specs; Front tires: 195/50R15 Geostar Rear tires: 195/60R15 Warrior Overall length: 17' Wheelbase: 130" Width: 66" We just got the results from the 2014 VW's on the Green show hosted by VWEC (the event held the very day this Loooooong Doka was posted for auction on eBay) and have some additional fun news. One of our other projects my daughter and I completed (big props to K.E. & P.M. for their involvement) won the Split Window Stock 49-67 category two years in a row. Hopefully, although clearly not stock, the Loooong Doka shows the same commitment to details and mindfulness. Gonna be a nice ride for the winning bidder for sure. . . . . .
