Vehicle Detail
What you are viewing here is my 1955 Studebaker Champion Starliner Hardtop with 89,353 miles . Purchased several years ago from a long-time collector, I planned to get it running and use as a daily summer driver, hence the desire for a 6 with OD. It needed all the systems gone through, work that I started, but my deteriorating physical condition brought all that to a halt. The Stude came with the original Owners Manual. The previous owner had stored the Stude 21 years inside on wood floor pads. Someone before him did a complete body strip-down and repaint, including some front-fender and rocker rust repair, but not the smoothest job. The car needs a full cosmetic restoration...chrome, paint, seat upholstery, etc. These are the original colors, Tilden Gray and Pima Red (coral pink). Of course, the pink swash on the front fenders & doors was not original, but was quite common back when I was a kid, so I was going to leave it that way. The Tires are Firestone Champions, are just like new, but I have no idea how old they are. The door panels and arm rests are fine. The carpets look like aftermarket replacements, but are OK. Headliner is OK, as are the Chrome window-sills and the dash. The seats are the original upholstery, and will need recovering. The car has spotlights and dual rear-fender antennas, and the President Speedster chrome crown over the roof. Some elec. stuff works, some doesn't. The horn & wipers work, but the radio and lights do not, and I did not get into any electrical problem-solving yet, other than greasing the turn & tail light sockets. Plans were to convert the entire system to 12 volt, and will include a handbook on how to do that. The interior floors and trunk floor are all very solid, as are the door bottoms, rear quarters, etc. The tinted glass is all good, with the exception of the vent windows which are bubbled around the edges. HT's and coupes were built on the longer-wheelbase Land Cruiser chassis What's been done: radiator has been re-cored$, hoses replaced and system flushed. (New) Fan belt, plugs and points. Carburetor rebuilt and new air filter. Oil & grease. New 6 volt electric fuel pump installed. Gas tank flushed and coated with Red Coat to seal a minor leak. All rubber gas line replaced. (New) Trunk rubber seal has been replaced, and car comes with new rubber seals for around the doors (included)- not installed yet. Also included is an original '55 Stude Shop Manual...a Great help, and very informative. Even the owners manual was very helpful. This would be a great candidate for restoration, or to build up a Studelac (Stude-with Caddy V-8). I will be happy to help with any questions. Shipping will be entirely up to the buyer. The car currently starts, moves and stops. (Brakes are good). ...but not yet ready for road travel.
