Hello and thank you for viewing our 1985 Mercedes-Benz 380 SL Roadster. First of all, this vehicle was purchased brand-new by the Chief Financial Officer of Walgreens. He personally went to Germany in 1985 and had the car built, then had it shipped over on a cruise ship. This vehicle was never meant to be here, and it was made to the specifications of vehicle that we believe to have been sent to Australia for road racing. This is a one-of-a-kind car, and you most likely will never find another one in the United States. I have done extensive research through Mercedes dealerships, also with Mercedes-Benz USA, and they cannot find this serial number in their database. We are relisting our 1985 380sl due to a non-paying bidder. If you do not intend to pay for the car if you win, we would appreciate it if you would refrain from bidding. I have new information from George Murphy with the Mercedes Benz collectors club. After two weeks of doing research and going back and forth with Mercedes Benz in Germany Mr. Murphy was able to figure out my vehicle in the matter of a couple hours. My sincere thanks to him. That being said, this is considered a gray market car. It does have the 3.8 V/8 engine but it is higher output motor than the standard 3.8. The car is in very nice condition. The paint and interior are good, with a small split in the dash. The car has upgraded rims from Mercedes and larger tires than normal. The Mercedes has a beautiful cloth top and the hard top is almost perfect. It also comes with the Mercedes Benz hardtop stand on wheels. The car has just a little over 49k and drives and runs very nice. The vehicle has a lot of power, all power options work as they should and it is equipped with air conditioning (but I have not tried it). The car has the desirable European slim bumper. This is truly a very nice example of a classic Mercedes. We purchased this vehicle from the legal counsel of the widow of the man who passed away. He obtained the vehicle and in 2009 had it shipped to Ohio and whenever routine maintenance was to be performed, had it flat-bedded to a mechanic. The vehicle has never been driven on the road since he purchased it. The vehicle weight is 1,960 kilograms, which is approximately 4,312 pounds, and is around 800 pounds heavier than the United States model. The car sits on an R-107 chassis. The Mercedes-Benz dealer that I approached had never seen the wheels on this car before, and they aren’t in any of their books or records, but they are still Mercedes-Benz wheels. From the time of purchase, the vehicle was never driven in salt or snow. The vehicle’s engine runs excellent, and the transmission shifts smoothly. The car has a very nice interior, with a minor scratch or two on the body, but really a nice clean car. The soft top is in excellent condition and the hard top is close to new. We also have the hardtop stand from Mercedes that is on wheels to allow you to move your top anywhere you want to roll it.This will be a 7 day auction with no reserve. The last highest bidder when the auction is over wins my car. I would like payment by either CASH OR WIRE TRANSFER ONLY, within 48 hours. We do not use Paypal, checks, or credit cards. I also ask that the winner of the car calls in the morning to complete this transaction. I would like the car picked up within 7 days because I don’t want to be responsible for the car and I could really use the room. This car will be locked up and kept safe in a garage. I will not pay for shipping, but I will assist your shipper in pickup. If I don’t hear from the winning bidder within 24 hours after the auction is over, I will offer the runner-up bidder a second chance to buy the car through a Second Chance Offer. If you can’t personally make it out to see the car before bidding, please consider sending out a local mechanic to check out the car for you and give you a complete inspection.
