1971 BMW 2002 – The original “Sports Coupe” Sahara / Black 2 liter 4 cylinder (M10) 320is 5-speed conversion 320is Recaro Seats 2 Owner California “Blue plate” car I am listing this car for my brother and following is his write up. Summary I’ve decided to sell my 2002. I have owned this car for the past 18 years and it has been a great vehicle and a joy to own. I bought the car from the original owner here in southern California, where I live, so this is a two owner California car. It has been well cared for, well serviced (as you can see below) and very reliable. I have made numerous repairs and tasteful upgrades and it has been slowly been restored while in my stewardship. It has been my weekend driver and occasionally driven to and from work, approximately 30 miles, for the past eighteen years, but it’s time for a new owner to enjoy this appreciating classic. The rebuilt motor runs great and the mild 288 cam, Weber 38 DGES carburetor, 5-speed transmission and bigger brakes transforms the car from its original 1971 spec sheet. It looks good and drives and handles exceptionally well. Keep in mind that this is a 43 year old vehicle and it is not being sold as a show car, nor is it priced as one. The Sahara Beige paint is the original color and it is in excellent condition and being a California car has no rust due to recent bodywork upgrades in February of this year. To match the 320is Recaro seats, the rear seat, door panels, carpeting, and headliner have all been upgraded for consistency and match perfectly. They are all in very good condition. The dashboard does have some cracks and the door closure could use minor adjustments. Lights, turn signals, etc. all work as they should. To duplicate a project 2002 to this quality would be very costly in both time and money. So if you’re looking for a very nice 2002 that you can get in and confidently drive and enjoy today, this could be your car. It attracts attention everywhere it goes and it seems that everyone has a question or a story to share about these great little cars. Someone is going to get and enjoy a great little 2002 Roundie!
