Vehicle Detail

Please view our feedback section for a sample of the vehicles we have sold. We've sold several nice Volvo 240s, and mechanically, this one is no exception. Lots of high resolution pictures and 2 Videos. Autocheck report also in pics section. Just scroll down! 1984 Volvo 244 Diesel 157k, odometer is working. - Donated to charity, Thick folder of records (See pictures), Great running and driving Diesel with some needed TLC. Been in Arkansas and Texas all its life. Doesn't smoke, drives like a champ. Hello there eBayers, This vehicle was donated for sale benefitting charity. The previous owner and donator has an extensive history for this vehicle, all documented and in a nice, neat folder. He has owned it since 2000 and according to the folder, has really spared no expense when the vehicle needed it. Vehicle is running and driving, with a great powertrain and transmission, but will require some TLC to be complete. Please read on. Aside from some cars in my personal collection that we have sold on eBay, every now and again we come across something that we believe you may appreciate, and this might be the one. We have sold quite a number of vehicles on eBay, all with positive feedback. (Credentials can be supplied on request.) Please see Title section below for specifics regarding title transfer to you. It's an easy process and title is again, in our possession and ready to be transferred to you. Please, please, PLEASE, read everything here so there are no surprises, this is a used car, so please don't expect a beauty queen. This car is more like a nicely running and operating workhorse than anything else. Mechanically very sound, but with some issues listed below, also cosmetically needs some assistance in the clearcoat / paint department. Description Below: Drivetrain: 5 Speed Manual with working overdrive, Straight 6 Cylinder Audi/VW/Volvo Diesel Engine This car starts up in a mere fraction of a second after the glowplug light turns off. A half-second turn of the starter gets her running, smooth and steady. (Please see video of engine view cold start to warm up and exhaust view) - Engine is smooth, accelerates beautifully, transmission is excellent and overdrive works just as it should. Clutch has plenty of life left, suspension is in amazing shape and due to records, all major joints and shocks have been changed not many miles ago. You can literally take your hands off the wheel while doing 65 and feel confident that she will drive straight. Literally NO smoke from the exhaust. (See video) A solidly driving vehicle, with healthy drivetrain. Engine wiring harness has been changed due to records, to a sum of over $900. She may not be the most beautiful car, but the previous owner & donor loved it. Mechanical Issues: The mount for the power steering pump has been broken from its housing. The part number for this part is 1328517. The pump itself is excellent and works fine, it just needs the top mount in order to be able to use it. Currently we are unable to connect the drivebelt to the pump due to the separation in the top mount. (pay attention when watching video and looking at pictures to see the crack in top housing... further pics can be supplied on request.) Due to the inability to attach belt to the power steering pump, the cooling fan does not spin either. However, the car still doesn't overheat, even when idling in traffic. However, I haven't really driven it in summer. Coolant is always green and at a pefect level. Temperature has never been above 1/3rd on gauge. Also, just lately I am experiencing an issue where the power brakes will work flawlessly for the first few pumps, but on the third and subsequent pumps, you will have to push the pedal harder to engage brakes. It seems to have a vacuum leak somewhere in the brake system. After waiting a few seconds after first braking, the power will return. It might be a failing brake booster, or perhaps vacuum line. We are unsure at this point. These two points are the only mechanical issues we have noticed. Body and Paint: Body is nice and straight, with no real dings or dents to be seen, chassis is rust free, but the clearcoat has been faded, and may need paint if you decide later on. There are some discolored clearcoat spots, but for the most part, the clearcoat has worn out evenly. The result is a matte finish. Please see pictures, keeping in mind that the camera may have made the clearcoat look better than in person. Interior: The interior is quite clean, but not perfect. The seats are in great condition, everything is intact, but there are blemishes on the carpet and areas where the interior may need cleaning or attention. The pictures really say it all. Tires: Tires are in great shape and look relatively new, with reciept still in folder. I'd rate the tread at 80% or more life left. Electronics & Electrics: Everything works and is healthy and functional. The power window switch for the driver's side broke, but we have another on order and will be replaced for you before arrival. Title: Good blue title, Title is available and may be in my name, or may be transferred by previous owner to our business. Either way, the title is ready and available to either hand to you for registration in your state or possibly get temporary tags until which time you can register car in your name. Car will NOT come with license plates, so you will have to either trailer the car, or obtain insurance so you can then get a temporary license plate from the D.O.T. - Either way, all documents are in order for transfer. Deposit and payment: Deposit of $300 is due immediately after auction end to our PayPal account. Remainder is due within 3 days. Storage and Pickup: We can store the vehicle for a period of 14 days for you. If you need longer, please contact us first, I'm sure we can make arrangements usually at no additional cost. Pictures: These are hosted on Photobucket. Please click to zoom. Video: Cold start and warm-up cycle - Notice the properly working warm-up regulator. Some of you have asked for a diagram outlining the exact mount that the power steering pump needs to be able to have a drivebelt once again operate it. Here is a diagram from Volvo, please note item #4. This is the item you will either need to weld or acquire to be able to once again use the power steering pump, and for the radiator fan to once again spin. As far as the donor and ourselves can make out, any competent welding shop can take care of the welding. It is either an aluminum alloy or perhaps cast iron. Since this engine is shared by VW / Audi and Volvo, a bracket from any of these brands with this engine should work fine. Please contact us with further questions and once again, the car can be driven without this pump, but steering will not be power assisted until the mount is welded or replaced, and the belt put back on. Again, despite the radiator fan not spinning due to the broken mount, the car does not overheat, even in traffic. I have never seen it go above a third on the temp. gauge. As long as the car is not in bumper to bumper gridlock, I assume you will be fine until this gets fixed, but please use your own common sense when operating the car after purchase. The temperature gauge is the most important gauge to me and says a LOT about a car... and I also love seeing nice clean coolant. This car stays cool and coolant is fresh, vehicle does not display signs of overheating.
