This is a fantastic classic car that runs and drives! The Lafayette 400 was sold as the 'Salesman's Car', this model came with a back seat that folds down and opens to a sheet of plywood in the trunk - they are rumored to have included a mattress (not included with this car). They also included a shade on the back window, which this one still has, though it needs reconditioning. This Lafayette appears to be 100% original. I started rebuilding it a few years ago, but family demands haven't allowed me the time to complete. In all of the work and on the lift, we didn't notice rust beyond surface rust, the most significant being in the trunk. This car appears to have been garage kept most of its life. I truly believe this is a great specimen for a complete renovation to original standards. It is complete, solid, runs, and has many original details intact. Mechanically, all it needs is a generator rebuild - it charges, but not enough to maintain the battery for long periods of time. It is a 6 volt system. The car has a heater and front windshield defrost vents. It also has auto wipers and dash lights. I encourage any bidder to come inspect the car. Started right up, runs smooth, well kept, tranny and brakes are firm and smooth. I want to mention that the lights did not work today, must be a fuse because I have driven it at night before and all of the sudden they both went out. On Apr-24-14 at 16:48:14 PDT, seller added the following information: Other things I should mention are: 1) the horn works, but one of the clips is broken so it isn't attached (I have the pieces), 2) I have the emblem, someone broke it off before I picked up the car years ago (it seems that it could be easily pot welded back on), 3) the spare tire and original rim is in the trunk, and 4) the heater has a cool vintage look (adding picture) on passenger side.
