Vehicle Detail

1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo - 350 4bbl - 3-Speed Auto Up for auction is a 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 2-door hardtop coupe with a 350 V-8. It has a 4-barrel carburetor and a three-speed automatic transmission. This is a project car. Engine/Transmission/Drivetrain The car has been sitting for several months, but before it sat, the engine was inspected by a mechanic, who gave it a tune-up. The engine starts up right away and runs strong, with no unusual noises. The engine doesn't blow smoke, and doesn't seem to have any leaks. The transmission appears to shift OK with no clunks or hesitation. However, the car has just been driven a few miles around the neighborhood, so either the engine or transmission may need work. The driveshaft seems good, but the U-joints are making noise and probably need to be replaced. The condition of the rear differential is unknown: it doesn't seem to make any noise, but a personal inspection is encouraged. Bidders with additional questions or concerns are encouraged to inspect the car in person: a personal inspection can be arranged by calling Gilbert at 818-675-4105. Body The roof needs work: the car had a vinyl roof at one point, and water was trapped beneath it, causing rust. The top part of the roof was cut away and replaced with good sheet metal; however, some grinding/sanding and other work is needed to make it blend with the A-pillars and other roof parts. The sail panels and area around the rear windshield will need to be replaced with good sheet metal. Otherwise, other than some small rust holes in the trim around the bottom of the driver's-side door, the body is straight, free of dents, and rust-free. The floor panels and trunk panel seem good, but a personal inspection is encouraged. All of the glass is there and intact except the windshield, which is missing. It was damaged and removed before the roof work began, and was not replaced. The doors, hood, and trunk open and close OK. The windows go up and down, but the mechanisms should be inspected and lubricated. Bidders with additional questions or concerns are encouraged to inspect the car in person: a personal inspection can be arranged by calling Gilbert at 818-675-4105. Brakes/Suspension/Exhaust The car has front disc brakes and rear drums. The brakes seem to stop the car well, but should be inspected before driving. The suspension seems original to the car and should probably be inspected (shocks, bushings, etc.) before the car is driven on a regular basis. The exhaust system does not seem to have any leaks, but should be inspected before the car is driven on a regular basis. Bidders with additional questions or concerns are encouraged to inspect the car in person: a personal inspection can be arranged by calling Gilbert at 818-675-4105. Interior The headliner was in poor shape and was removed from the car prior to the roof work, so the headliner will need to be replaced. The front seats were reupholstered at some point, and are in OK shape, but the driver's seat-back is torn. The rear seat appears to be original, but is torn and faded from sun exposure. The rear parcel shelf is not much better. The carpet is torn and needs to be replaced. The door panels are intact, but should be replaced. The dash pad is cracked and should be replaced. The steering wheel is faded and cracked, and the center piece has broken off. It will come with the car, but I'm not sure it can be reattached. The face of the dash is in OK shape, but could use a good cleaning. The ash tray hangs down and needs to be fixed. The gauges seem to work, but the fuel gauge is not accurate: the sending unit may need to be replaced. The lights work, but the turn signals do not work properly: the flasher unit or bulbs may need to be replaced. The back up lights need to have the bulbs replaced. The car has an AM radio. Bidders with additional questions or concerns are encouraged to inspect the car in person: a personal inspection can be arranged by calling Gilbert at 818-675-4105. Exterior The exterior trim is intact. The front bumper and grill are in OK shape; the rear bumper doesn't fit properly against the rear lights. The car will need to be repainted as part of a restoration, but the paint isn't in bad shape for a driver. Bidders with additional questions or concerns are encouraged to inspect the car in person: a personal inspection can be arranged by calling Gilbert at 818-675-4105. Title Registration is current, but the car is currently registered as a non-op. The car has blue California plates that are original. Final Notes Again, bidders with additional questions or concerns are encouraged to inspect the car in person: a personal inspection can be arranged by calling Gilbert at 818-675-4105. Please look at the pictures carefully and ask questions before bidding. The winning bidder is required to provide a $500 deposit within 48 hours of the end of the auction; the car must then be picked up within 7 days unless other arrangements are made. Shipping is the buyer's responsibility, but I can help with moving the car to a convenient location for pickup by a tow truck or auto transport. Good luck!
