Vehicle Detail
PLEASE watch the included video !!! This rare panel truck actually started out life as a 1942 Chevrolet model, but it doesn't resemble one at all anymore. It looks more like a 1937 model, as I used 1937 Chevy pickup truck front fenders, and a V-shaped radiator grille shell from a 1940s White Motor Company truck, to give it a more classic '30s look.. And It does have the correct 1942, numbers matching OPEN Texas title with it.. Just put your name to it, and you're off to the races.. It doesn't get any better than that. Due to too many car projects, old age, and not enough funds, I are having to sell this awesome truck.. My loss, your gain. Feel free to make an appointment, and come by to inspect the truck before bidding, if you are able to do so. The truck has been chopped 3 1/2 inches, and according to the previous owner, it was done by a Mexican "low rider's" club, down in South Texas.. They did an excellent job on the chop, and did it the correct and best way, (and hardest), which is NOT to lean the front windshield pillar posts back, but to actually lengthen the roof.. And they did this in two separate places across the top, instead of one.. To have a company custom chop a top on a panel truck, and also do the body work, would cost untold thousands of dollars. I am starting the bidding out on this truck, at a fraction of that cost. One of the things I especially like, is that instead of cutting the rear doors on the same plane lines as the body, thru the windows, they cut the 3 1/2 inches off the bottom of the doors.. This enabled the rear windows to be the stock size and height, instead of being mere slits.. I saw a chopped '42 Chevy Panel truck on the internet, and the rear doors looked like a real amatuer did it.. These guys did a lot of pre planning and thinking on this chop job.. The top hinges of these rear doors will fit in the original position, but the bottom hinges will have to be altered.. They started on it, but didn't finish..So the rear doors are not mounted yet.. Also, the rear doors need an inside bottom plate piece put in.. If you can't weld, this piece could also be made of wood.. This is no big deal, as although these doors are all metal construction, most all the pre-war truck doors were all wood frame construction, with the metal skins tacked on.. If you want to go that route, of using wood in the bottom of the rear doors, I can give you some oak lumber (but not fitted) when you pick the truck up.. Cannot ship though.. The complete outside of the body had been brought down to the bare shiny metal, and coated with Ospho metal rust preventative conditioner.. The inside of the truck has also been power wire brushed and treated with Ospho. I didn't prime or do any body work on the inside of the truck though, so as to show the quality of the top chop welds and metal working.. Only thing I didn't get to, as far as the rust proofing goes, is the area on the bottom of the body below the frame rails, along the sides.. Also the inside of the rear fenders.. I was going to lift the body off, (or tilt it on it's nose) and put it on saw horses to finish this task.. You will need to do that.. The body is not bolted to the frame rails, but it does however have 2 bolts thru the body into the original frame rails, to keep it in alignment.. Taking the body off to finish the rust proofing, would also enable you to clean up and paint the frame rails of the chassis.. The original 72 year old wood floors, with the metal strips, are still in place, and very solid. The same group of guys also installed the Camero front clip,( independent front suspension ) under the truck, as well as the Camero rear end. They did a great job on these also.. The Camero power steering has been hooked up as well, and the truck steers and rolls very easily. I was going to build and drive the truck with no hood, but I do have the original '42 hood, that you can have.. The rear of the hood will naturally fit the body, but will have to be cut shorter in front, and fitted to the White Truck grille shell, ( if you wanted to use it ).. Anyway, It goes with the panel truck.. The rear fenders have been welded to the body, and molded in.. I didn't do it, but I actually like it this way. The running boards are also very solid, and hard to come by in this condition. The front fenders, as well as the running boards and grille shell, are not bolted to the body or frame, but only clamped in place.. I was in the process of mocking this all up, when I was forced to sell.. It will be just a matter of boring the holes, and bolting them together, and also fitting the front fender braces. There is no engine or transmission..There is no windshield frame, I wasn't going to use one anyway. Not even sure they had metal windshield frames, as the 2 rear windows were installed with a rubber moulding gasket.. There is no glass, but the window regulators are in place and work.. There are no original front 1942 front fenders, or hood sides.. If you don't see it in the video or pictures, then I don't have it.. No sense even wasting time asking.. Ain't got it, don't know who does, don't know where it is, don't want to know.. I will leave it all together till you come to pick it up, and then we can dismantle and put the front fenders, running boards, and grille shell inside of the panel truck, if you wish. All the hard work is done on this project, and is on the down hill slide.. It should be a relative easy job to finish this project. The outside body work is pretty much done, but there is only a thin coat of black primer on it.. You will need to finish block sanding and putting more coats of primer.. I was going to alternate with grey to black, to make sure all the high spots were eliminated..I was going to use some build-up epoxy primer surfacer.. Although it looks almost as straight as an arrow, if you really get down tight and feel it, you will find some spots that need attention.. The front fenders were nothing to brag about, and I had to do a lot of welding, patching and body work on them.. Fibreglass fenders are relatively cheap, but personally I prefer the real old steel, regardless of the condition. The tires and wheels on the truck, go with the truck, but the tires are not much to brag about either, and one of the front ones has a leak.. I had originally planned on getting larger rear tires, as I think it looks better that way. (no, i'm not buying them now) Also, I don't have all the lug nuts, so you will need to buy more lug nuts if you use these wheels.. The rear end has 3 inch lowering blocks, which I had intended on taking out, as I like them to sit higher in the back, old school. If for some crazy reason you do not want the front fenders, or the White Truck grille shell, or running boards, I will allow you 200. dollars on the pair of fenders, 150. dollars on the grille shell, and 150. dollars on the pair of running boards.. You can take your time in getting the vehicle, 10 years if necessary, at no storage charge, and I will personally guarantee the truck will not be stolen or vandalized in any way, and will be kept covered at all times from the elements.. I live in the middle of 20 acres, and the whole property is surrounded by fenced woods, and the only way in or out, is down a locked gate at the front on our driveway.. There is always someone at home, and live in a great community, religious, and crime free.. (knock on wood) I won't be moving either.. I have lived here all my life, and not going anywhere, so your truck would be safe here, till you come for it. But regardless, I still need immediate payment. I can also help with the loading if you wish, like I said, it rolls very easily.. No reserve on this auction. I will not take any less, but always open to possible partial trades, on guns, ammo, antique project cars, parts, collectibles, old signs, old gas pumps, early Texas documents, just about anything that is neat or unusual, (no boats), as long as i'm not getting beat up on the deal.. It never hurts to ask, and you won't offend me, it's just material stuff. There is NO PAYPAL on this transaction. Also, ANY CHECKS, MONEY ORDERS, BANK DRAFTS, or ANYTHING except COLD HARD GREENBACK CASH, will have to clear my bank by 3 weeks, before the vehicle leaves my possession.. NO EXCEPTIONS. Don't ask.. I'm old, seen all the scams, and don't trust anyone, not even you.. I also need immediate payment, ( in case I forgot to mention it).. Full payment expected within 7 days, or will notify eBay of non-paying bidder, and will re-list the panel truck.. eBay doesn't take kindly to non payers.. Although I need to sell, i'm not desperate by a long shot. Don't win the auction and tell me you are going to pay me in cash, when you pick the truck up in a month, or whatever.. You will be considered a non payer, and I will relist the truck and notify eBay on non payment immediately.. I HATE surprises, and i'm sure you do too.. If you can't abide by these rules, email me BEFORE the auction closes, and maybe we can work something out, maybe.. PLEASE do not bid, if you are not going to honor the bid..... Non payment will be reported to eBay immediately. ASK any questions before you bid, not after auction closes ! I reserve the right to end this auction early, for whatever reason. PLEASE DON'T EMAIL ME AND ASK ME TO CALL YOU, IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. I don't have a cell phone, and no longer even have a land line.. I am at my son's shop (just a couple of blocks from here) Monday thru Friday, 7 till about 2:30 , and i'm not going to call long distance on his business phone.. If you need to call me, you can call me there during those times, just email me for the phone number, but I would prefer emails personally, as there is a record of the conversations. Any bidders with 20 or less positive feedback, or too many negative feedbacks, will have their bids canceled immediately, unless the bidder emails me on why they should be able to bid.. Please, let us not waste each other's time. THANKS, and good luck !!!!
