Vehicle Detail

In the July/August 2008 issue of “Motorcycle Classics,” Richard Backus writes, “When the Honda CB700SC Nighthawk S was introduced in 1984, the words of praise from the motoring press were immediate and, in a surprise twist to the norm, unified.” So there’s what the pros say. Ask me and I’ll just say, “Yeah, it’s a kick-ass bike, man!” I have a 1985 Nighthawk S, blue on black. No, it doesn’t look new, but damn close. It’s nearly 30 years old, don’t forget. Seriously, If 5 is average and 10 is mint, we’re talking 7 or 8 here. It’s got about 22,550 miles on it, so nobody’s ridden the hell out of it. It runs great, looks great, is great. So yeah, there’s a reserve on this auction. And it’s not for sale to just any jackass. This bike is for the rider that wants old-school aesthetics with still-great performance. It’s not a starter bike (though it is very easy to ride and maintain). No, this is a collector’s bike. It needs to be appreciated, it deserves respect and admiration, and it loves to be ridden. This 500 pound badass is powered by an air-cooled, inline four with a displacement of 696cc. It’s got hydraulic lifters (That’s right, no valve adjustment, amigo!) and a shaft drive (That’s right, no chain to #@$& with, kemosabe!) Six-speed transmission. Horsepower? 80 at 9500 rpm. Torque? 45 at 8000 rpm. MPG? Over 40, unless you use up most of the 4.2 gal tank running from the cops (or your sad, wasted life). Top speed? 120 mph or so. Never been over 105, myself. And on that note, the sumbitch will stop when you need it to. Dual-disc front brakes with twin-piston caliper (and TRAC anti-dive front suspension, air adjustable) Drum brake on the rear. This bike handles great in the curves, shoots around downtown, and travels nice on the highway. It’s 1985 old-school cool, but still technically relevant. And sadly, I need to sell it. PayPal or cash within 5 days of auction end. No other payment accepted. Delivery expense is the responsibility of the Buyer, but I have some shipping contacts if you need a phone number or two. If you’re a serious buyer, feel free to email me with questions. And if you’ve been reading along, thinking, “Hell yeah, this sounds like the one!” then you’re right. I wish you luck and success in the auction!
