Vehicle Detail

Here we have a rare 1962 Pontiac Bonneville Vista Top (also known as a 4 door hard top). I say "rare" because even though there were some 44,000 produced, I have only found 3 for sale anywhere on the internet, and none on Ebay. I am the 3rd owner, 2nd owner had the car 30+ years. Here are the details on this one: Paint: The car had a repaint 10+ years ago (all the chrome was taken off the car) to its current blue color with some silver metal flake, and it's very eye-catching! There are some scratches here and there, but it shines up nicely. Good, driver quality paint. Interior: The interior is original and is the rare full tri-color Morrokide vinyl interior. Headliner, front and rear dash were recovered at some point in the past and aren't the original material but in excellent condition. The Morrokide has held up really well over time, there are a few cracks on the bottom of the driver's seat area but the rest is in amazing shape. When people look at this interior, they are amazed at the condition and love the unusual tri-color. All switches and buttons are there. The two lenses that go over the courtesy lights in the headliner are in the glovebox, but they are cracked. An aftermarket CD player is installed in the glove box. Stock radio is still there but disconnected. Chrome: the front and rear bumpers are in very nice shape, I suspect they were rechromed at some point. The side chrome strips have pits, but polish up well. As with the paint, the chrome is good driver quality. Glass: all glass in perfect condition, no cracks or chips. Front window was optionally tinted from the factory. All windows go up and down as they should, and vent windows open and close. Rust: I've noted some places where there is rust bubbling up under the paint. I have included a couple of photos of this. The frame, trunk, floors are all solid. Mechanicals: Everything is in working order as far as exterior lights, blinkers, dash lights, etc. Power steering and power brakes in good working order. Wide white tires in good shape with about 95% tread. The heater doesn't turn on, I was told it was disconnected by the previous owner to discourage him from driving the car in the winter! Car fires right up, transmission shifts smoothly. I have punched the accelerator a few times on this car, and it really takes off! The 389ci with the 4bbl was rated at 303hp. Engine compartment: The engine compartment is clean and simple. Everything that's there is stock other than the horn which was added by the previous owner. Probably a belt or hose has been replaced over time, but other than that, it looks to be all stock. Options: There are almost no options installed on this car. No power seats, no power windows, no power locks, no AC. What this means to you: none of the headaches that all of those options usually entail! Personally I like to buy cars without all the electrical options because they always seem to be more of a headache than anything useful. Couple of points: the car has 32,522 miles on it. This is the actual mileage. The NJDMV, back in 1989 (the last time title changed hands), put a "1" in front of the total miles, so it read 130,000. They also got the VIN number wrong by putting a letter instead of a number "2" in the first position (all 1962 Bonnevilles started with "28" in the VIN). This is typical NJDMV behavior, and I have run into this problem numerous times with them. They will not make corrections, but will simply put "not actual" on the mileage. I have purchased other low-mileage cars from the previous owner of this car in the past, and I can assure you that 32,522 is the actual mileage. I had no trouble titling, registering, and insuring the car, but wanted to make these points known. I am happy to send a photo of the previous title to anyone if need be. Please email me with questions or if you have additional pictures you'd like to see. This is a really cool car, in fact I've gotten more comments driving this car around than any old car I've ever had. No, it's not a Barret-Jackson car. But with the 2 door hardtops and convertibles now pushing $25,000-$40,000 in restored condition (even the other Vista Tops I've seen for sale online are priced between $11,500 and $18,500) this is a great car at a great low reserve price that you can hop into, turn the key, and drive down to the next car show with no issues. Thanks for looking and good luck!
