Vehicle Detail

This is a NO RESERVE auction for My Great Uncles 1942 Military Police Willys MB. The Delivery Date on the Brass Data Tags of January 6th 1942 puts it in the Slat Grille Era production of these jeeps. It however doesn't retain the original Slat Grill. The Hood Number is Original and was recovered after carefully sanding down the paint on the hood to recover these numbers. My Great Uncle Roy Flay served in WWII as a Bombardier on the B24 known as the Massillon Tiger in the 8th Army Air Force 467th BG, 789th Bomber Sqaudron Stationed in Rackheath, England, from August 1944 till the end of the War. He was the lead Bombardier on many missions including one over Berlin. I have included a photo of him in front of his plane. The Markings on the Jeep are for the 8th Air Force, 2nd Air Division, 987th Military Police, Stationed near Norwich England. My Great Uncle Chose these markings as a tribute to his best friend who served and died as an MP with the 987th in WWII. The 987th MP Company was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation for the period of January 1944 to April 1945. (General Order #157, HQ, 2nd Air Division, 8th Air Force). My Great Uncle purchased this Jeep when he came home from the war to be his transportation to get around on his farm. It was never titled as it was a farm vehicle. I inherited it a couple years ago, after he passed at the age of 87 and got it running and driving safely again with help from some professionals. It comes As-Is with a Bill of Sale only. I have really enjoyed this piece of my Great Uncles WWII history. It always gets lots of looks and the young kids love it. It is a piece of American history. This is not a museum quality restoration. This jeep comes with all of the standard tools on the driver side (ax and Shovel), it also comes with a WWII helmet, Original Rifle Rack, a original Military Hand Grenade Crate, and a Full Size .50 Cal Resin Machine Gun (Movie Prop - cannot fire). the engine, transmission, clutch, rear end, and brakes were completely gone through by a master vintage automotive mechanic, who has over 50 years of experience with Classic Automobiles.the tires are Non-Directional Tread, with brand new Tubesthe original ww2 fuel pump was restoredIt has a Brand New 6v battery and the entire electrical system has been gone throughOriginal Hood NumberIt comes with a original ww2 rifle rack installed on the windshield, a Resin .50 Cal Machine Gun, a WWII Helmet, and a Hand Grenade Crate. Our Family Hopes that the new owner will enjoy owning this piece of History as much as we have. Thank you for looking, and please have a Merry Christmas. On Dec-14-13 at 07:53:20 PST, seller added the following information: I forgot to add to the description that this Jeep also has had Brand New Leaf Springs installed Front and Rear, along with the Correct Shackles and Mounting Hardware. The U Joints were also replaced recently. All of these new Items were purchased from Kiaserwillys.com and installed professionally It also Comes with Top Bows and the correct Capstan Studs on the Windshield I also found an Original WWII MP Armband that I will include with the vehicleOn Dec-14-13 at 08:07:18 PST, seller added the following information: This Jeep also has the Original Torque Reaction Spring on the Drivers Side Front Axle. I am by no means an expert on this vehicle. Ask Questions and I will try to Answer them to the best of my ability. On Dec-14-13 at 08:20:45 PST, seller added the following information: This is not a FORD GPW. It has the original "Round" Cross member under the Radiator. I guess the Ford GPW had a Channel type Cross member in this location. On Dec-18-13 at 01:07:36 PST, seller added the following information: I had a bidder ask about any rust on the undercarrage and the condition of the "Hat Channels" on the jeep. I couldn't find any rust the underside of the jeep has been painted with a black undercoating paint. the front floors of the jeep appear to have been replaced with steel floor boards and a couple of the hat channels have been replaced with channel iron. As I stated before this is not a museum quality restoration.. this was my great uncles farm jeep. Sold AS-IS. Happy HolidaysOn Dec-19-13 at 19:41:50 PST, seller added the following information: I was asked if this jeep comes with a canvas top.. it does not... new canvas tops are readily available through Beachwood Canvas or here on ebay for about $275. The Gas can on the back of the jeep is for display purposes only (it has a hole in the bottom). also the jeep has seatbelts in the front seats but not for the rear seat. The original footrests for the rear of the jeep are still in place.
