Vehicle Detail
Here is what I would call an investment grade, very original 1971 Camaro ss 350 that is extremely solid. The quarter panels, doors, trunk, floors, frame rails, subframe, dash, hood, roof, cowl, radiator support are extremely solid. The only spots of rust that I could find on the whole car is a small spot on each fender in front of the doors, and the right front wheel house under the battery tray. This would be an absolutely perfect candidate for a top notch restoration or as an investment that you could enjoy as is, while its value goes up. The car was built with some very cool options(and I have the build sheet). It has the ss 350 option, performance suspension with rear sway bar, tach and gauges, 4 speed, power steering and power brakes. This car was built with an 010 casting # on the block and could be very easily cloned into a Z28. That is what I was going to do, but I decided against it. I do have almost all the correct parts to make this car into a Z28 if you are interested after the sale. The mileage is stated on the title at 76,xxx. I cannot confirm nor deny that it is correct. It would honestly seem to me that a car the 76,xxx would be a little nicer, but it is 42 years old, so you be the judge on that one. The car is very original with the #s matching engine, transmission, and rear end. The only things that appear to have been changed are the air cleaner, valve covers, alternator, starter and headers/exhaust. The engine starts and runs great just as it should with no noises, but does puff a minor amount of smoke only if you step on it before it warms up. Once it's up to operating temps it runs clean. The trans shifts nice and smooth as it should with no noise. The rear end also works as it should with no noise. The interior is in overall nice shape. The front seat covers were replaced before I got the car. The carpet was in bad shape when I got the car, so I replaced it with an Auto Customs Carpet that fits very nice and looks great. The floor under the carpet is super solid. Any specks of surface rust were wire brushed and sealed before installing the carpet. The dash pad is has a bow in it from the sun. One back seat bottom has a small puncture that looks like it could have come from a pen or pencil. The trunk is very solid. I sanded and painted the trunk because the paint was in poor condition. The trunk floor is as solid as the day it was made. There were no repairs done whatsoever other than sanding and painting. The only issue with the trunk is where the jack/ spare tire mounts. It looks like the mount and spot welds were pulled off of the trunk floor leaving two small holes the size of a thimble. There are also screw holes that were drilled to mount an amplifier at one time , but the amp is no longer there. As you can see, the exterior appearance of the car is less than stellar. The paint was done some time ago, and it was a poor job at the time. The car has many chips, dings, small dents and scratches all over. The original color was silver (code 13), but it had more of a greenish tint than the silver that is on the car now. It appears that the car was either painted green at on time before being returned to silver, or they used a green primer/sealer during it's repaint of silver. You can see many spots of green where the silver topcoat has chipped off. The car has never had any frame damage or major accidents. The quarter panels and fenders are original to the car. I'm sure there are things I can't think to list right now, so please ask any questions that you may have. I have described the car as honestly as I can. If you need any pictures of certain parts of the car, I will be glad to provide them. The car is located in Freehold NJ. If you would like to see the car in person, please contact me to arrange a time. I think you will be amazed at how solid this car really is. If you are going to try to scam me, please don't waste your time and mine. The car is for sale for cash at pick up (preferred) or bank check that will need to clear before the car is released. I will only release the car after my bank says the funds are there. If you need the car shipped, I will assist in any way that I can. Thanks and good luck bidding! On Nov-17-13 at 09:19:01 PST, seller added the following information: I have had many offers to trade and some questions I would like to answer here about the car. As far as trades go: I can only think of one vehicle that I would take on trade. That would be a 4 cyl Toyota Tacoma 4wd truck. Feel free to make other trade offers, but it won't be likely that I will be interested. As far as the reserve or a buy it now: I will only say that the reserve is set at the amount that I have invested in the car without counting any of my labor. I do not have a buy it now because I really don't know the value of the car. I can only say that when you consider what it costs to buy a rusted ss or z28 and then buy floor pans, original quarter panels, door skins and so on, the cost far exceeds the reserve and that's not even counting the labor. After that, you will still have a car with replaced body panels. Also, there are a few things I wanted to add to the description: The actual mileage on the odometer is 76,462. The rear spoiler is not original to the car. It was added some time before I got the car and they did a horrible job of drilling the holes to mount it. There are big washers inside the trunk that are covering up the slotted holes that were cut for the spoiler mounting studs. The last thing I can think of is that there are no lower door or trunk weatherstrips in the car. At one time I was planning on starting a restoration and removed them to start stripping to jams. I never did strip the jams, but the weatherstrips are gone. I will look to see if I still have them to re install, but keep in mind that if I do still have them, they are really shot.
