Vehicle Detail
1995 BMW 325i This car was my beloved daily driver until March when we bought my wife her new car. I inherited her “old” car which better fit our family situation and my carpool needs. So I stopped driving the 325i--I had hoped to keep it, but other financial priorities take precedence. Fully optioned with heated seats, traction control, real leather (not vinyl), wood-grain trim, dual airbags, etc… Interior is in good condition, car runs great, cold AC, etc... I bought the car at 155,000mi, from a gentleman who had hit a deer. The hood, bumper cover, and left front fender were damaged, which I replaced (note the earlier style front bumper cover). A family friend, who has been a professional bodyman for 30+ years repainted these pieces. Unfortunately, the paint on those parts is not an exact match to the rest of the car. There are some paint chips on the hood and front bumper. I replaced the water pump (with a metal impeller unit), new Behr radiator, and thermostat, when I bought the car. I have only ever used BMW blue coolant. I have always run Mobil 1 (10w 40) and have been diligent with maintenance. New valve cover gasket and intake boot within the last year. New auxiliary cooling fan (for the ac condenser), and new driver’s-side window regulator, also within last year. New rear tires (less than 500 miles on them), and fronts are hardly worn. It has also had rear strut bushings within the last two years. Changed rear diff to Mob 1 Synthetic (75-90) in 2009. The previous owner installed H&R lowering springs, which I gather to be “sport” as they do not significantly change the ride, it is still smooth (not bouncy), but it definitely sits lower than stock. I just replaced the battery (10-10-13)—it was dead from sitting--with a new Autocraft Gold series. She starts right up and sounds great. Issues: 1. It has been sitting since March a. I drove it around the neighborhood, it seems like the left front caliper might be dragging a little bit. There is a hint of a sound while driving, and it is noticeable under braking. The brakes also are not as firm as they were before being parked. I’m guessing it’s from sitting, and would work itself out after being driven. The brake-lining light is also on. It did not do any of this before being parked. b. When I opened the hood for pictures, the cable release must have bound up, and the hood will not fully latch closed (that’s why it isn’t fully closed in pics). I suspect some wd-40 would resolve this. 2. The throwout bearing got noisy in the last few months I was driving it. The clutch is fine, and the car drives fine (no slipping, chattering or otherwise), but there is an audible noise when you depress the clutch pedal. 3. Rust: There is some mild surface rust, primarily around the base of the trunk lid. There is also a spot around the right rear wheel well. Nothing terrible, but wanted to mention it. Also, when installing new battery, I saw that there is rust in the battery tray area. See images. Quirks: 1. It has popped out of 3rd gear a handful of times, when not under load. I mention this only as I want to give full disclosure, I could count the times it happened since I bought it on my two hands—it did NOT increase in frequency throughout my ownership. 2. On occasion the sunroof won’t close immediately. If you turn the car off and wait for half an hour or so, it closes fine. 3. Occasionally (maybe 1 in 30 times driving) the instrument cluster will go dead, not the lights, just the needles. 4. My son likes to sit in the driver’s seat and pretend he’s driving. It seems that he damaged the headlight switch—it still works fine, it’s just doesn’t click into each position. 5. Driver’s side door lock can be finicky with original key. It works fine with the dealer-issued spare. Worthy of note: 1. There is an area of cracked paint on the right front bumper cover, as if someone backed into it. 2. The windshield-washer squirters never worked. 3. There are some spots on the headliner, the previous owner said a can of cola exploded in the car—the headliner is otherwise in good condition. 4. The air conditioning blows ice cold when being driven, it merely blows cool (not warm) when sitting, despite having replaced the auxiliary fan. 5. On the passenger side rocker, there is a section where paint is scratched off. I was pulling into a CVS and someone came out crowding my lane, forcing me further right. The rocker rubbed the radiused curb (did not go up over or smack into it, just rubbed it). 6. The rear deck speakers are not in the car. I don’t fancy myself a stereo guy, so it never bothered me. The empty factory boxes are in the car. 7. The door cards are in excellent condition, though the mirror adjustment switch surround broke long ago. (everything works, just looks odd—see pic). 8. If you don’t want the wheels/tires I will consider knocking $400 off the price if you bring your own. 9. Center console arm rest is dark blue (not black) and has a small hole in it. 10. Driver's-side low beam occasionally needs a bump to come on. I am a long-time BMW enthusiast, and have owned e24s, e28s, e30s, and an e9. I kick myself in the rear to this day for selling my e30 325i and fear I will do the same with this car, but my circumstances dictate action. It is not a perfect car, but it has been loved, and with a little effort could make an excellent and reliable daily driver. Taking note of the throwout bearing and caliper, I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions, including if you would like to see the car. $250 non-refundable deposit required within 24 hours via paypal. No reserve auction--bid to buy.
