The mechanicals of this car are very good. It starts right up, idles nicely, the transmission shifts, and the brakes grab. This car has a late model small block mated to a four speed automatic. This is a big listing but think you will find it worth your time. WHY? 3 years ago she was my daily driver, started making noise in the rear and parked her in the back yard. Finely got back around to the old girl and found she only needed a rear axle shaft, bearing and new brake shoes. So I cleaned her up for a new dance partner and here she is! Tags and registration have passed, but I hold the good clean title. In the paragraphs to below I will give you a brief description of the exterior, interior, and heartbeat of this Chevy. We will start off with the exterior of the El Camino. The body is solid with good lines, there are however bumps, bruises, rust and chips in the paint and body, but overall still very nice. The fit of the doors and hood is good. When you look down the sides they are pretty straight. It’s covered in the Cranberry Red Paint that is accented by the Black Rally Stripes across the power bump hood. All the chrome is fair to decent and stainless is good, the rear bumper is split and has missing chrome, should be replaced. Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks have been installed at all four corners, along with Airlift air springs, added to retain hauling capabilities; it even comes with a toe hitch. The tires are good; it has Rallye wheels with rings and caps. This ride has factory Power Steering and Power Brakes (factory disks in front and drums in back). The final touch is the inside of the bed has covered with Herculiner bed liner. Next, we will take a look at the interior of the ’72. When you look inside this car all the interior is done in custom red and black tuck and roll upholstery following the classic factory lines. Bucket seats have been added (the driver being electric), as well as console and horse shoe shifter which has been converted over to four speed. The seats, door panels, headliner, and top’s vinyl all were replaced 3 years ago, carpet is decent. When you look at the dash it’s all correct with the exception of the radio change. It’s a Sony AM/FM Compact Disc Player w/ card remote commander, Sony 3x5 4 way speakers in the dash and Pioneer 6x9 Speakers mounted in the rear panel. It has the entire factory AC vents and controls, currently not hooked up; I will include new in boxed compressor and dryer to go to winning bidder. Finally, we will take a look at the heartbeat of this Chevy. Under the hood it looks all correct with everything being in its place. The engine is a ’86 model 350 center bolt V8 with Edelbrock carburetor and RPM intake, it has a HEI electronic ignition system with retro orange 7mm wires, bowtie loom kit, chrome valve covers. The exhaust runs through Flowtech Afterburner headers, Magna flow mufflers, finely exiting under the rear bumper, (the custom dual exhaust system sounds terrific a nice mellow tone). The transmission is a 200R4 overdrive transmission (sourced from a Buick Grand National “rare”); tied to the motor by a Bowtie Overdrive’s install kit. This setup provides great highway cruising at lower RPM, with the factory 12 bolt rear end with 2.73 gears. I also include Bowtie Overdrives transmission speedometer gears to correct the speedometer if you convert rear-end to 3.73 for even better performance. The only thing you will need is a new battery, as the old red top is dead! This is a great car that you could drive and enjoy. I promise it gets lots of attention and that it can be driven every single day if that is your desire.
