Vehicle Detail
1997 Geo Tracker, 3 Speed Automatic, 4WD, purchased this Tracker for my daughter almost 5 years ago on ebay and it has served us well. My daughter is in Missouri at college and no longer needed the car. I planned to sell the car several months ago but then kept it around to run in the winters when it snowed as car is great in the snow. A couple months ago my sister and her husband needed a vehicle, so I basically gave it to her (it is now in her name) thinking she would get a year or two out of it, but as explained above the stabilizer/suspension bar on the rear end broke off. We rigged it enough to get it home but the car is not safe to drive. Over the last four-five years I have done all the general tune up items; oil every 3000 miles, changed the spark plugs, wires, belts, hoses, etc... Also replaced the timing belt and water pump at 78K. Most recently (about a year ago), I replaced the front struts and did a complete front brake job including the calipers, brake hoses, rotors, pads and a couple lines. Also, replace the rear brake drums and shoes 3 months ago. The tires also have about 3/4 of their tread left. We did put a new top on when we bought the car and it is still in pretty good shape but the rear window got dingy (hard to see through). The battery is new and will stay with the car if it sells over $600...otherwise I am keeping the new battery:)! I don't sell cars often, but I do buy them and don' t like to be misled, so here are the pros and cons of this tracker as I see them: ProsIf you own a tracker/sidekick and are looking for a good parts car this is definitely it. As stated above I have put many new parts in it over the last few years.Engine runs excellent...starts right up...no smoke...purrs like a kitten (outside the rot issue I would think nothing of driving this car to work over 40 miles away) Transmission shifts smooth...no slippage (has the 3-speed in it) 4WD works great (has the manual locking hubs) The car is fixable if you can weld (probably not worth it if you have to pay someone to do it) and the car overhaul is in decent shape for the year, especially the interior; only tear is on the side of the drivers seat If you fix it, it is a fun little car to drive...great in snow and top comes off in summer. Cons New England winters have taken their toll and the only way to fix it right is to pull the rear end and gas tank and weld up the back end of the car...including some areas on the frame. The car is not safe to drive as it is. Check engine (emissions) light is on. Last time (Oct 2011) I had to go through emissions, I replaced both O2 sensors and the light went out and it passed fine. I haven't checked the code, I usually go to AutoZone and have the code read, which I had planned to help my sister get it through CT emissions this month, but never made it and have no intentions to now! It needs parking brake cables (one on each side)...they are frozen and I left them disconnected when I replaced the rear brakes. The car is not safe to drive and will need to be trailered away by the buyer. Not sure what else I can say, so please send me a message if you have any questions/concerns. The vehicle is also available in Naugatuck CT to be inspected, please send me a message and I will make arrangements with you. I have the opening bid set at $400 and there is no reserve!
