"YOU ARE NOT FASTER THAN A RED NECK!" This car is a "tribute" and NOT a "clone" because clone means simply to mimic while tribute denotes and communicates the respect and honor due to the genius that was Carroll Shelby and that respect and honor governed so many decisions in the restoration and maintenance of this car. I can't recount the many times I had to battle it out with a shop that couldn't care one iota about maintaining the correct appearance of this historically significant vehicle because switching out this or that simplified their task. I never accommodated them even once. This isn't some generic hot rod to be dressed up in chrome and bright colored wires and components at your whim, it is a history lesson scripted by Ford and Carroll Shelby and it comes with a very well known script. Once you get behind the wheel you will find that out because people from every spectrum of society, from every age group, will approach you with some level of awareness that your car is a Shelby. There is no other American built car that comes with this kind of visual recognition. It is a muscle car in its rawest form and it has this popularity and recognition because it dominated race tracks around the world and ruled the streets of our cities. I have owned NUMEROUS classic cars over the course of my 55 years and nothing comes even remotely close to this one for thumbs up. This particular car is no frills muscle. If you're looking for some 'restomod' with AC, power seats, windows, door locks, etc., you're wasting your time here. I don't even 'get' "restomod," but if you do 'get' Shelby then everything about this car makes perfect sense. Let's begin with fundamental components: under the hood is a 347 stroker purchased from Summit Racing and built by Blue Print Engines. This motor was installed in January of this year and it comes with a 30 month or 50,000 mile transferable warranty. It has been dynoed at 400 plus h.p. It puzzles me when I see these guys putting 600 to 1000 h.p. motors in their street driven Mustangs because with 400 in this light car I could literally smoke the tires until they crumbled. One of the shop battles that I fought was with the garage that installed the motor. He called me twice to say that I was making a huge mistake painting this beautiful motor black and just didn't seem to 'get' keeping the engine and engine compartment Shelby correct. That's right, in 1965 the engine was painted black, and not Ford blue. Although the engine isn't a 289 K Code it looks like one and comes dressed in the same apparel. The air cleaner is Shelby correct, the carburetor is the correct Holley 715 LeMans, the intake is a correct Cobra, the valve covers are Shelby Cobra correct, the tri-y headers are correct and so is the 7.5 qt. Cobra oil pan. It has correct Ford hose clamps, correct radiator and shroud and even a mechanical fuel pump. It should also be noted that in 1965 the only color available was wimbledon white with Lemans blue stripes. The transmission is a 4 speed top loader and it shifts just as precisely as it did 48 years ago. When the motor was installed I put in a new clutch plate, pressure plate, throw out bearing and had the fly wheel turned. The drive shaft was completely rebuilt as well and the rear end was just rebuilt installing a new ring and pinion gear and a new Detroit Tru Trac limited slip. The rear end is a 3.0 and to stop the hop there are cal trac bars just like the Shelbys of old. The wheels are Boyd/Coddingtons and the tires are new Hankook Ventus that are rated for 180 plus mph. In the interest of being historically correct, the method used to drop the front end is the Arning/Shelby drop method, the same way Carroll dropped the front of his cars (google that). The steering is manual, because it enables you to really feel the road (Shelby used manual steering as well), and the brakes are manual as well (imitating Shelby), but there are disc brakes on all four wheels. With a hundred extra h.p. a good argument can be made for that departure. The interior closely follows the Shelby scheme as well. It has the correct Moto-Lita steering wheel, the correct center dash gauge pod with Shelby gauges, the correct racing seat belts, the correct roll bar and all of the interior from headliner to carpet has been replaced with factory reproduction components. The glove compartment door has Carroll's signature and this comes with a certificate of authenticity. I watched one of these sell for $2,200.00 right here on Ebay. The instrument cluster is new and it was an OEM part found in some parts supply warehouse that was created for European released Mustangs and the speedometer goes up to 200 kilometers. I had an antique speedometer service recalibrate it for mph. and I have yet to see this in any other Mustang. It is quite the conversation starter and it is practical as well because I have driven this car at speeds exceeding 150 mph., got into a little race with a newer Vette on the highway and repassed him at 145... I should add that although I never took and raced it on a strip I have been told by someone who has drag raced for 30 plus years that it is a 12 second car or better. I believe that it is a near perfect balance of horsepower, vehicle weight, and gear ratios for a pump gas, street driven car. It even gets about 15 mpg. on the highway! (In one of the photos it appears as though there is a stain in the rear carpet. It is caused by the lighting or a shadow.) There has been so much work done to this car that it would be almost impossible to present it all. To begin with it came out of California, has no rust and no rust repair. It was dynamatted from front to rear, the gas tank is new, the sending unit is new, the rotors and brake calipers are like new, everything under the hood is new (with the exception of the master cylinder), it has a new trunk mat, new window regulators, new window felt, new weather stripping, new brake and clutch pad, new speedometer cable, new nylon speedometer gears in the transmission, new upper and lower control arms, new brake lines, new sway bar bushings, new rheostat, new ICVR, new windshield, new windshield trim, etc., etc., etc. and everything works (windshield wipers, heater, fan, defrost, all dash lights, turn signals, interior lights, etc.). It is a turn key car and if there was a road and a necessity I wouldn't hesitate to drive it to China. When the new owner takes possession of it the car will arrive with every zirk greased, every fluid topped off and the oil freshly changed (and per the engine builder's instruction I will add zinc). You will have to change the jets out in the carburetor (very simple), because it is presently set up for 6000 feet. North Dakota bidders: See the very cool "YOULOST" license plate? If you are registering the car there I will assist you in acquiring this designer plate. As a final note, this car was the FEATURE car at the Superior Collector Car Auction in Denver (Sept. 7th, 2013) and it was the sole car pictured on the cover of their auction catalog. The reserve was not met. The car comes with a custom California car cover ($400.00), and numerous odds and ends parts. This car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Due to the subjective nature of descriptive terms the bidder should confirm the condition of this vehicle for him or herself before bidding. You are not bidding on the 'option' to purchase this car but upon bidding are entering into a legally binding contract to purchase the vehicle. If you have any questions call me at (701) 361-6225 and if you care to view the car make an appointment. I will also make it available for your third party inspection. If you would like to make an offer to end the auction early give me a jingle. Finally, and I mean finally this time, friends DO NOT let friends bid on foreign crapola... keep it Red, White and Blue. "SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDING THE STREETS OF AMERICA FROM FOREIGN INVADERS SINCE 1965" On Oct-10-13 at 22:23:07 PDT, seller added the following information: Prompted by an interested party I looked at the steering box to determine what it is and the tag has the stamp "HCC AX" which is a tight ratio 3 3/4 turn box that was installed in GT's and Shelbys. The sway bar is 13/16".
