Vehicle Detail
1968 Camaro SS Original Texas Car All Original Matching Numbers born with parts VIN 124378N447592 Up for sale is my very original 1968 Camaro. Let me start by saying that the SS emblems were added to the car. She just looks better that way…..the SS fender emblems can be easily taken off if one wants, as they were applied with 3m tape. Apart from that, this car is an extremely original Camaro with an incredible amount of documentation dated back to its original purchase in 1968. The engine is the original 327 engine - as is the transmission and rear end. This is a dry climate Texas born car, originally purchased at Lewis Chevrolet Company in Canton Texas, just outside of Dallas. The car was born in Texas and never left. This is a two-owner car. The original owner was JW Jones Jr. of Dallas (not sure if related to Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, or not). The original owner took good care of the Camaro, taking it in to repair whatever it needed over the years. He also kept records of all the work perfomed. Most of the early maintenance was done at Doran Chevrolet in Dallas and then to the Corvette Shop, also in Dallas. I have two binders full of receipts, including maintenance records and mileage dates going back to 1968. I purchased the car from the second owner in Katy Texas, near Houston. I have original documentation, including: original protecto plate original dealers invoice (original price was $3162.36) original typed dealer letter to the owner original owner deposit check dated 1968 original hand written notes from the owner regarding pricing prior to purchase original owners manual original dealer brochure original keys tons of receipts dating back to 1968 The car is completely matching numbers with it’s original “born with” engine, transmission, rear end and many other factory assembled parts. It is nice to see them like this in survivor condition with so many original parts (it’s also nice to see them with no rear spoiler!) Some of the original parts on this car are as follows: original engine original transmission original rear end original front and rear bumper guards original a/c compressor original glass and trim original sheet metal, quarters, fenders, etc. original trunk splatter paint (I did not repaint the trunk) original jacking equipment original interior and door panels original dealer installed floor mats original headliner original seat belts and shoulder belts I do not believe this car has ever been apart. The car has very little rust. The undercarriage is perfect, not ‘rattle-can’ painted as many are. There is rust under the vinyl top at the back window (a common area on these cars), a blister on the passenger side quarter from the vinyl top and a small spot behind the right rear wheel opening - but that’s it. It is an amazingly dry car. It appears based on the receipts, that the car has only had one repaint in 1986 (the brochure on the paint is in the binder, it’s a DuPont base/clear coat paint job). The paint is in driver condition with some imperfections here and there as you might expect since 1986, but it does not take away from the originality of the car- in fact it adds to it. All the glass is clear and the chrome bumpers and chrome trim are original and are in great shape. The hood insulation is new and it has the correct ‘round’ style clips. The car has some recent upgrades done by the second owner, including an aftermarket stereo with 6x9 speakers, upgraded suspension including new springs, beefier sway bars front and rear, new body bushings, new shocks, new flowmaster exhaust, new plug wires, recent tune up and an aftermaket alarm system. A vintage Stewart Warner oil gauge is under dash. An aluminum intake was also added to the car (the original intake is available to the new owner). I also have the original 14” hubcaps that go with the car (now has ralley wheels). All of the brake lights work, blinkers, horn, gauges, etc all work. The interior gauge pod and console lights work. Also, even the key buzzer still works. The car runs good and the records show the original engine has been rebuilt. The second owner told me that he did a valve job recently too. I have been dealing with early Camaros a while and you just don’t find them in this kind of original condition - heavily documented, especially for the price I am asking. The factory put these cars together well, I see a lot of restored stuff that does not go back too well. It amazes me how a lot of the reproduction stuff does not look or fit right. Repro door panels look nothing like the originals, these are original. This car is solid. It’s not a perfect show car, but it is in overall ‘driver’ condition. I have it price right too….this is a car that someone can take to the next restoration level, father-son project or enjoy now until then. Feel free to email me with any questions. There is no doubt that this car will appreciate in value over the next several years and is better than money sitting in your bank account, since you can enjoy the car while it appreciates (should appreciate faster than the interest from the loan for that matter). This is a great example of an original matching number Camaro. This type of car is worth holding on to due to being numbers matching and all the history and documents that go with the car. It is seldom one finds a car like this and it is getting harder to find cars in this kind of original condition…..so bid early, don’t miss out!
