Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is my 1977 Plymouth Volare. I am the 2nd owner of this car. The 1st owners were an elderly couple who bought the car new from a dealer in Giltner Nebraska in 1978. The man was the only driver of the two. He drove the car for 15 months before he passed away. He put 19,705 miles on the car. His wife who did not drive, put the car in their barn which is where it set until she passed away and I bought it from the family in 2006. When I got the car it still had the original factory tires on it! The odometer read: 19,705 miles which is what is on my title. I had to change all the original belts and tires which though practically unused were still dry rotted from over 30 years in storage. The car now has 56,632 miles as the picture shows the odometer. I have put about 37,000 miles on this car in 7 years. I drove it to work about 10 miles away for several years and had it on 1 out of state road trip. It is real smooth on the highway. I am very easy on my vehicles when I drive and always have been. I did change the starter motor. I think the brushes seized up most likely due to non-use when it was in storage. It also has good tires now and battery. It starts right up and purrs. It has the slant 6 engine which was about the best engine to ever come out of Detroit...but I am sure you already knew that. It has cruise control which is nice when you are on the highway or on a trip, and AC. The AC never blew cold when I got it and I believe all it needs is a freon charge. I never really cared personally for air conditioning so I never had it charged...sorry. The actual system components and compressor may have never even been used since the car was built and I am the 2nd owner! Sometimes the fuel gauge is intermittent which may be an electrical connection loose. The interior is mostly like new with only a few blemishes here and there. The seats do not have any tears anywhere. It has new tune up parts like plugs and wires and filters. It is a carburetor engine and has no computer, which I think is a good thing personally. I think the gas mileage is in the low 20's per gallon. The car has a few blemishes here and there but really is in great shape for it's age. I won't tell you it is in mint condition but I have taken good care of it the best I could. I have not driven the car in about 2 years due mostly to health issues, but I do start it up every few months and let it idle just to keep the battery charged. I was going to give the car to my son in college to drive, but he remains unconvinced that the car is the ultra chick magnet his older, wiser, (and much better looking) father tells him it is. Maybe it is because there are only 5 station presets on the (working) AM radio? Kids these days...they just don't appreciate the classic things in life, go figure. So, it is an extra car to me and I do not need it any longer. The car is being sold where it is and as is. I will try to answer any questions I can though I am not a mechanic, please understand I will do my best. I have kept the oil changed also, but it is due one now I would think. I can arrange to be here and help it get loaded if you are using an auto transfer company to have it sent to your location if you are far away. You will need to make those arrangements of course. Please feel free to stop by if you are in the area and check it out in person, I think you will be pleased, just notify me ahead so I can be sure to be here.
