Vehicle Detail
This 48 Super Convertible is my fathers car. He has owned it for a number of years now and has enjoyed driving the car all over the country. He purchased the car from the second owner out in Washington State. He flew out, looked the car over and drove it home to Kansas City cross country. How's that for faith in the car! The car is just like the one his father owned when new, and would let my father borrow for date nights, and that is why he wanted the car. It has been written up in several magazines, and an article was done in the Kansas City Star Newspaper , by noted automotive writer Tom Strongman, regarding my father and this special Buick. The engine had been rebuilt before he got it, and converted to a 12 volt system. The gauges were converted as well and the car has the power to have headlights now that let you actually see at night. There is a switch wired to the oil pump, that will shut the car down if for any reason the oil pressure drops. It has not happened, but it is a good safety feature. The front suspension was rebuilt a couple years back by John Hemmingway in Iowa. John has done numerous Buicks and knows how to make them steer right. John also changed the rear gears from the 4.56 to 3.90. This allows the car to run at hiway speeds and keep the engine RPMs low. Radial tires were added when the wire wheels were installed. This made the car even easier to steer and safer for my father to travel in. We have the original wheels for the car, and that is how it will be sold. The wires were a personal choice and not correct to the car. They can though be purchased if the new buyer chooses to do so. We had the original upholstery changed out 4-5 years back. The car originally came with a cloth and leather combination, but because my father wanted a more simple interior and one that was easy to clean and care for, he opted to go all vinyl instead. The seats are comfortable, and everything is in nice condition. The Hartz type cloth convertible roof is in very nice condition and looks great on the car. When the carpet was replaced, there was an additional underlayment put down to reduce heat from the car into the interior. The body and paint on this car is original from 1948. It is amazing to see a car that is this old, still wearing the original paint. It is not showroom perfect, heck its 65 years old. there are areas where it has been rubbed thin, and has scratches and rock chips, but over all it looks good and its amazing to watch peoples faces when they find out it is still original. It would have been a sin to repaint this, so its still there. The car has been shown at numerous Buick Club of America Shows across the Midwest, and has been invited to the Kansas City Art of The Car Concours show for some 5 years running now. The chrome is not perfect shiney anymore, but all nice and in good condition. The car is in Cedar Rapids, and I welcome anyone interested in owning a piece of Buick history to come drive the car. I believe whole heartedly it will put a smile on your face the way it did for my father for so many years. Thank you for looking, and I am happy to answer any questions Mark 319-361-6465
