Vehicle Detail
This is a rare, 100% rust-free, garage-kept, nearly mint condition MK1 Rabbit GTI. The MK1 was the first car I ever drove and I've been obsessed with it from the age of 15. She remains my automotive first love. She still makes me smile every time I drive, wax, or photograph it. Now as a 40 year old man with family, dogs, and 4 other cars I simply do not drive it. So I'm selling it along to the next lucky owner. The Silver MK1Mine is a nearly flawless factory original GTI. I purchased this one several years ago from the original owner with 38k miles on it. I didn't believe the odometer but the car looked and drove well enough so I bought it. After tracking down registration and ownership records I was able to validate that the milage was accurate! Needless to say I was thrilled. I spent the last few years replacing anything that was slightly worn or not perfect. I sourced original parts OR perfect re-productions Since I've owned it I've replaced all rubber. Tires, CV Joints, control arms and bushings (all bushings for that matter) have been replaced with either new old stock, or new reproduction stock from MK1Autohaus right here on eBay. "The Master" - A well known Miami based MK1 VW specialist completed an overhaul of all routine maintenance items and everything that that dries-out or wears-out over time. The car is now back to its original glory befitting the world's first Hot-Hatch. The only non-factory changes are the replacement of the original shocks with Bilstein's and the replacement of springs with Neuspeed SoftSports. Everything else is period correct factory original OR a period correct upgrade (short-throw shifter for example): 1. New clutch and clutch related parts2. New timing belt, water-pump, thermostats, etc3. New filters and fluids across the board4. New brake pads5. New Short Shift Kit and all related shifter bushings6. New rubber weather-stripping (new old stock) on all doors, hatch, hood, etc7. New H4 Headlights I had car wet-sanded first to remove the clear-coat applied over the factory paint by the original owner. But I couldn't stop there. I then decided to complete a total body re-paint to factory specs. The car was stripped to a bare shell, painted inside, underside, and outside to factory spec and re-assembled to nearly mint condition. What you see in the photos is only a hint of how nearly flawless this car is. There is zero rust anyplace on this car (and there never was rust). There are no mechanical issues at all. There are no suspension issues at all. She drives like GTI's did when new in 1984. The factor AC is as cooler than a new car. The wheels are original snowflakes (and though in excellent condition they would benefit from a cosmetic re-conditioning to match the perfect body). I've spent more than I care to admit keeping this low-milages time-capsule in its current state. And I'm asking what seems to be reasonable for such an example. I am listing the car in other forums and other sites and selling locally. I therefore reserve the right to end the auction at any time.
