Vehicle Detail

Car starts and runs great, goes like stink, always has. Lots of fun to drive! Very reliable as my daily driver. Mechanical issues: The transmission 1-2 shift is a little rough but it hasn’t gotten any worse in the 6 years I’ve driven the car. What's not perfect: The driver seat adjustment motor that controls moving the seat fore and aft is getting balky and won’t move far. Adjustment motor still works but the rail appears to need some lubrication. But if you’re tall like me, you won’t need to adjust the seat. So the 8-way adjustable seat only adjusts 6 ways. New tires in last 500 miles. Needs shocks (only noticeable in really hard driving). Sunroof switch is a little balky. The switch is a normal item that goes out on 928’s. It’s cheap and easy to replace. When I bought the car (6 years ago), the previous owner threw in a switch. That was the only one I have had to put in, now it’s going out. Anti-lock brake light has started coming on in recent weeks. If the unit has really gone out (not sure), at least the car is perfectly drivable (unlike a BMW 530i I owned where the antilock is interconnected with the transmission, rendering the car undrivable). Over the 6 years I've owned it, I have replaced the starter, fuel gauge sending unit, electric fan (in front of radiator), thermostatic control for fan and cruise control unit. Uses no oil, does not smoke. I don’t have a complete history on the car but the previous owner said it was wrecked (hit on the driver’s side), repaired very well and maintained for years at Holbert Porsche in Philadelphia where it spent most of its life before I brought it to California in 2007. I have most maintenance records. Timing belt was replaced around 90,000 miles. It has a rare shade of dark blue (non-metallic paint, original color) paint, gray-green leather and smoke-colored carpet that looks better when you see it that it does in the pictures. Interior is in really good shape, considering its age. Even the driver side seat back bolster looks good, a rarity in a car with this mileage on it. Never smoked in as far as I know. The body has a few dings and scrapes but nothing major and NO RUST. A/C blows cold. The car has the uncommon rear passengers’ air conditioner, a second set of cooling coils and fan that vent through the rear center console. It helps the car cool down quicker on a hot day. The car also has the privacy cover for the cargo area, also not a common item. Nakamichi FM/AM/CD player (only non-stock item in the car) w/ the stock 6-speaker setup. In summary, this is a daily driver. It's not babied but it's not mistreated. Yes, there are a few things that need working on but none of them are safety or reliability issues and it's PRICED ACCORDINGLY. And remember, it's a 27-year-old car, even if it is a Porsche. I don't drive the car much anymore and my wife would like to have the garage back for her new car. So I'm looking for someone who will appreciate it and give it a good home. On Apr-25-13 at 08:29:51 PDT, seller added the following information: ------------- UPDATE ---------------NOTE: The AutoCheck score eBay gave this car is quite high: 67 versus an average of 24-50 for similar vehicles. This is significant because it also means this vehicle qualifies for eBay's Buyback Protection program. Not every car does including some other 928's currently listed for sale on eBay. In fact, read carefully and compare Vehicle Reports with other similar vehicles. Pay particular attention to the notes regarding suspect odometer readings on some other listings. The power steering unit leaks a bit. For now I just periodically top it off (uses Dexron ATF), probably a broken boot needs replacing. When I bought the car, the driver side door 'stop' was shot (the part with detents that keep the door from swinging open to it's limit). The new part used to replace it worked perfectly but made a bit of noise at each detent as you opened or closed the door. I was assured it would eventually quieten down with use. It did get quieter but it still pops. It's been popping for years now and clearly doesn't affect the use of the door, just so you know. The other door works fine. Also, the struts that hold the hood and rear hatch open have been replaced and still work well. Note the dash is perfect in this car except for the glove box door which is slightly warped from heat or age, but still works fine. And the seats are in surprisingly good shape with no large tears.
