CONDITION REPORT
One of the most iconic cars of the Muscle car era, the Chevrolet Nova is considered by some to be the ultimate street machine! Lightweight, great balance, easily modded chassis and powertrains, and stunning good looks all add up to one of the best vehicles GM has produced!
This particular car is a numbers matching engine and transmission vehicle that has spent most of its lifetime in Florida, and was just recently outfitted with some upgrades and goodies to make it the head turning "SS" Tribute car it is today!
The body on this machine is absolutely straight, and is Chevy steel all the way around. I have run a 4"x4" felt covered magnet over the entire painted surface of the car, and it sticks without fail. No bondo patches, chicken wire or other horror stories on this one, just solid, straight, and mostly original steel.
There are no signs of any dents, damage, crease, or even dings on the car, and body itself is super smooth and clean.
The white paint on the car is a few years old, but still shows shiny, slick, and clean all the way around.
It shows less than a handful of minor marks like stone chips, small scuffs, etc. over the entire painted surface, and none of them detract from the overall appearance of the car. Please review the 100 EXTRA LARGE photos provided below, and you will see that it really just is a knockout, on film OR in person!
The few blemishes that are apparent are not that bad, and really don't even show in the detailed photos below, but I want to point out that they are on the car so you are not expecting a brnad new 2013 vehicle when it shows up.
The cowl hood stripes are in great shape, and look amazing on the car.
Brightwork on the vehicle is in average or above condition all the way around, and more than nice enough to win a prize at any local or regional event. If you want it to be concours, you'll want to clean, polish, replace, or re-chrome a couple things. If you want a car that you can drive all week and still get a trophy with on Saturday, it will do the job just fine. Again, nothing BAD, as the detailed photos will show, but not a concours restoration.
All of the headlamps, tail lamps, and marker lights function as they should, as do the turn signals.
The glass on the car is in great condition, with no chips, cracks, damage, or prior repairs, and very light, if any, signs of age and use. There is no sign of laminate issues, and all the glass is clean.
Rubber mouldings, weather stripping, seals, and window surrounds are in great condition, and do not appear dry rotted or damaged.
Windows roll up and down with ease on good fuzzies, and all handles function as they should.
Grill, rear fascia panel, and emblems all look great, and show no damage or disrepair.
The car rides on factory Rallye styl wheels with trim rings and center caps that all look to be in above average condition. The tires up front are Cooper Cobra Radial GT and are sized P225/70R15. The rear are SR5000 Radial GT's sized P275/60R15. All of the tires are like new with over 85% of the useable tread life remaining.
Inside, the car has been tastefully upgraded from stock to provide a great cabin for cruising or that Route 66 trip you've been planning.
Carpet is factory OEM style, and is in excellent condition. It is covered by heavy duty rubber mat's that are included in the sale.
Door panels, kick panels, rear panels, and dash are all in great condition, and show to be damage and issue free.
The dash has been uncut, and all of the factory A/C vents and controls still work as they should.
Factory Speedometer works as it should, but the fuel gauge is sporadic and may need a new sending unit. All lights for brakes, generator, etc. appear to be functional on start up.
Underneath the dash you will find an aftermarket gauge cluster with Temp, Oil, Volt gauges. It could easily be removed if you do not want it, but all the gauges appear to be functioning as they should, and it looks great in the car right now.
Also underneath is a Mini-Tach that is calibrated as well, and looks awesome in the car.
Custom bucket seats are late model GM units, and are in very good condition, with light wear on the drivers side bolster, and light patina.
The drivers seat has power fore and aft functionality, and power recline functionality. Passenger seat does not. The side impact air bags that were originally in the seats are non-functional and may not even be in place.
Rear bench was upholstered in matching black vinyl, and it looks like new with no issues or damage.
Headliner is in fantastic and damage free condition, as are the twin visors up front.
Rear package shelf has a custom made panel with insets that looks amazing in the car, and is issue free.
The car is equipped with an incredible sound system, courtesy of a PUNCH amplifier hidden in the trunk, and a dash mounted AM/FM CD unit that is an Alpine CDM-9502. It works as it should and plays through four individual speakers hidden throughout the cars cabin. Everything from Bach to Bachmann Turner Overdrive sounds amazing through the system!
Under the hood, the factory original 307ci V8 is believed to have just over 18,000 original miles, but there is no way of proving or knowing this since the mileage was exempted the last time the car changed hands due to its age. We DO know that it starts, idles, runs, and performs like a fresh motor, and looks absolutely stunning from all sides.
It does not leak, weep, or drip fluids. It starts with a quick pump and turn of the key when cold, and just a turn of the key when warm. Idle is clean and smooth, and the car does not smoke any color at any time.
Snick the matching number 350 transmission into D and the car is ready to roll wherever you want to go!
Power is smooth, solid, and seamless, and the car shifts through each gear with assurance.
Rear end is the stock GM 10-bolt unit, and has stock brakes and driveshaft. Gearing is highway friendly, as the car only tach's out at 2,800 when doing 65mph.
The motor itself has been dressed with chrome valve covers, an Edlebrock air cleaner, and some other chrome bits for good looks, but it basically stock and super clean.
The underside of the car is solid and has NOT been covered by gloop or undercoating! You can see that it is all original, and has NO RUST, NO PATCHES, and NO ISSUES other than being dirty. From front to back, the chassis is clean, and if you put it on a rack, got the dirt cleaned off, and painted it with chassis black, it would show like new!
There is light oxidation on the undercarriage, but it IS NOT RUST. If you hit it with a whisk of a wire brush, it simply turns to dust.
Gas tank was recently drained, cleaned, and coated, and that may be when the fuel sendin unit got dislodged and started reading funny.
The car drives out wonderfully, and is just as comfortable cruising the strip as tearing up the asphalt on the freeway.
I have personally driven this car over 200 miles, and find it to be a joy to pilot. Handling is smooth and sure, brakes scrub off spped without any odd modulation or pulling, and it has more than enough power to chirp the tires while still giving you realistic fuel economy.
Overall, you cannot get much more bang for the buck than this classic 1971Chevy Nova can provide!
