FOR SALE: RESTORED 1962 T6 356B COUPE WITH 1962 S-90 MOTOR Available for sale is this lovely 1962 Porsche 356B T6 Reutter body Coupe, VIN 119389, finished in original Champagne Yellow over black, with a correct 1962 Super 90 engine (number 804843). This car was recently treated to a sympathetic restoration that included a complete glass out repaint with new rubber seals throughout, and a rebuilt engine. This 356 coupe is an excellent, turn-key driver that is ready to be enjoyed immediately as is, or taken to the next level. The Kardex indicated that this was originally a European delivery car, first sold by Autogena Bologna in March 1962. The car arrived in California in the 1980’s after a brief period on the east coast of the US. This 356 is believed to have only three prior owners, with the last owner purchasing the car in 1979 from a retired Navy officer in Virginia who purchased the car while stationed in Europe. I have extensive service records and receipts for the car beginning in 1979, this car has seen only modest use since the recent restoration. In-person inspection by appointment is welcome. Includes the owner’s manual, photo documentation of the recent restoration and service records and receipts going back more than 30 years. Clear AZ title is in my possession, this car is licensed, registered and insured and ready to be driven. I can assist with shipping worldwide and can provide a more detailed description to interested parties. Please contact me via eBay with any questions or to make arrangements to see the car or conduct a PPI. Over 130 photos are included in the slide show above. I can provide additional photos for serious bidders. I reserve the right to end this auction early before the reserve is met. I have set a very reasonable reserve - the car could not be duplicated for the price! Body/Exterior This car is finished in the original and lustrous Champagne Yellow, with paint code 747 indicated on the door tag. I viewed the Kardex for this car at Rennsport Reunion IV in Monterey in 2011, and PCNA confirmed that this is the original color. In 2012, the car was disassembled and all glass and trim removed, completely stripped with any rust professionally repaired (primarily around the rear windshield and passenger door bottom, all photo-documented), blocked and sanded several times and then repainted using a high quality PPG single stage paint, color matched using a color sample provided by Wilhoit Restoration. New rubber seals were used throughout the car. Panel fit is very good, with good overall gaps and smooth consistent lines. The hood and decklid are original to the car (stamped 389 – the last three digits of the VIN), are not kinked and shut as they were intended by the factory. Doors close well and with the customary solid latching which 356’s are known for (the door latches and seals are new, replaced during the recent restoration). Chrome and brightwork trim is straight and shiny, without any rust or major pitting, and an original Leisritz luggage rack is installed. All chrome appears to be original to the car and was replated when the car was previously restored in the 1980’s. The glass is very good throughout the car, with no apparent chipping, scratches or delamination. The floors and longitudinal are completely solid and required no work as part of the recent restoration. The body is straight and rust-free, and the car presents very very well. The car has 6-volt halogen headlights, and European turn signal lenses front and rear, along with correct original Durant exterior mirrors on both the driver’s and passenger’s sides.. Interior As part of the recent restoration, the carpet and headliner was replaced and is new. The original rubber mat, in good shape, is also available to the buyer if desired. The front and rear seats along with the door panels and dash were all re-done by the prior owner in black vinyl and are in very good condition, showing only modest signs of wear. The Kardex indicated that the car was originally supplied with green leatherette and corduroy interior, and the prior owner confirms that this was the prior interior color. The original steering wheel is in very nice shape and shows the slightest patina and no cracks, with a Porsche crest horn button in very good condition. No radio is installed, with a factory radio blank in its place, but an antenna is in the driver’s fender. Headliner is new, with good original sunvisors, and the speedometer (in kilometers) and tachometer function correctly, but the oil temp gauge is inoperative and the clock is intermittent. Period racing lap belts are installed. The cabin is very inviting, tempting a new owner to slide in and enjoy the view over the hood and be transported back to a simpler and more elegant time. Mechanical The engine in the car is a correct 1962 356 Super-90 engine (804843), but I do not believe it is original to the car. The Kardex indicates that this car was originally delivered with engine 701584, however, the prior owner acquired the car in 1979 with the current engine in place at that time, and the body and drivetrain have hallmarks of an original Super-90 (an original camber compensator and larger sway bar is in place), but the car is running Zenith carburetors and has a 5000rpm redline tach. The prior owner bought the car in 1979, bringing it to California in the 1980’s and using it regularly, doing a great deal of his own maintenance, all of which is well documented. Immediately prior to my purchase, he rebuilt the engine using a 1720 CC big bore kit, including ceramic-coated pistons, a new SC crank & cams, 912 bearings and a lightened flywheel. The rebuilt engine has less than 250 miles since completion in 2010. I have an extensive folder of receipts for parts and work dating back more than 30 years. The carburetors were cleaned and rebuilt, and the original gas tank was stripped, cleaned and refinished/resealed as part of the recent restoration. A full-flow engine oil filter was installed by the prior owner many years ago. The motor runs very well with excellent power and torque, and currently has a period aftermarket quad-tip sport muffler installed. The engine is tidy and clean and the sheet metal in the engine compartment has been painted or powder-coated nicely. The car retains the original 6V system, a new 6-volt battery is installed and the generator was recently replaced by TLG Auto. The car retains original drum brakes, which perform well (the front wheel cylinders were recently rebuilt by TLG Auto). Transmission shifts smoothly through all four gears, with no grinding evident up or down, and documentation of a prior rebuild is included among the records. The car has Koni adjustable shocks on all four corners, and rides on aftermarket 5.5” wide chrome wheels with Michelin tires. The car drives straight and true and runs, shifts, corners and stops extremely well. I try to be accurate and complete in my descriptions but all prospective purchasers agree that this description is solely for convenience, and should not be considered a complete description of any or all faults, and should not be relied upon or considered a representation or warranty or any sort. The car is sold as-is, where-is with all faults known or unknown. A pre-purchase inspection is strongly encouraged. Remember, this is a 50 year old car; it is not showroom new. If you have ever had an old car, or you are considering owning one, you should understand that there is an almost endless list of repairs, improvements, corrections and details that can be attended to. Like the car, I am old too, so I may have forgotten things that are important to you. I apologize for this lawyerly disclaimer, but we live in strange times. Thanks. On Apr-21-13 at 07:49:53 PDT, seller added the following information: I have included a few photos of the stack of service records in the photo slide show above. The receipts document the history of the car from 1979. In addition, in response to several questions, the odometer is in kilometers and reads 48,xxx I do not know the actual mileage. This car runs and drives very well and is ready to be enjoyed! Thanks
