Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1963 Mustang Trail Machine. The Mustang motorcyles were produced in Southern California in the 1950's thru the 1960's. The Mustang Trail Machine was similular to the Tote Gotes and other oversized mini-bike/trail bikes that were popular for hunting/ranching and other recreational uses. The Mustang Trail Machines are very rare and hard to find complete and in good condition. I bought this Trail Machine from the original family owner last year. The bike appears mostly original and has had very little use. The bike still has it's "Diamond" style front tire and "Tractor" rear tire that show little wear. The original owner Powder Coated the frame to it's original "safety yellow" color, prior to me buying the bike. The bike has a Briggs and Stratton 5 3/4 horsepower industrial engine and a Burman (English made) 3-speed transmission. The bike has a kick start. The engine starts up on the first or second kick and runs well with good compression and no smoke. The gas tank is very clean with no varnish. I have ridden the bike down my street once and the engine runs strong and the transmission shifts into all three gears. The bike has a lot of torque and power. I haven't had a chance to work on the bike and it will need some work to get it road worthy. The clutch for the transmission doesn't fully engage, even though the clutch cable and clutch arm on the transmission seem to move as they should. I am thinking that it may need a clutch adjustment or the clutch plates replaced. Also, the drive chain that runs from the engine sprocket to the rear wheel sprocket has some slack. It needs to be adjusted or possibly a few links taken out. Lastly as you can see in the pictures, the seat cover is original and brittle from age. It is being held together by tape. A new seat cover would look great! The bike will be sold with a Bill of Sale. This is your chance to own a very collectible 50 year old bike that is in very good condition. Pick up of the bike is preferred and any shipping arrangements and costs are the responsibility of the new owner. Full payment is due within five (5) days of the close of auction. Please ask before bidding, if you have any questions. Happy bidding!
