Vehicle Detail
1959 Triumph TR3A. Frame off nut and bolt semi-professional restoration completed 2006. My late father started this project but unfortunately passed away before he could finish it. He was a life-long street rodder with many many builds under him but this was the only sports car he ever undertook. I paid for the majority of it and have all receipts totalling thousands and thousands of dollars more than it will sell for. Virtually everything that could be bought as new was, and everything else was either re-chromed or refinished or restored in whatever way was fitting. None the less, it is not a concours restoration, it was done to be an attractive reliable driver, which it is. It was completely disaassembled down to the bare chassis which was powdercoated black. All suspension parts were media blasted and painted or powdercoated, needless to say all rubber parts were replaced, new wheel cylinders, new everything basically. Engine and transmission (4 speed non-overdrive) worked great before we started so we left them alone beyond replacing external parts (fuel pump, water pump, etc.). Body was media blasted and sealed before any body work started. I have many photos documenting the process, copies of which will go with the car. All the receipts are in a book and that will go with the car. All chrome is either new or when not able available for purchase re-chromed. We bought a new top, new top boot, sidecurtains rebuilt by The Roadster Factory, wheels are original ones refinished by Dayton Wire Wheels, leather interior, Wilton carpets, stainless exhaust, radiator rebuilt, non original but gorgeous Moto Lita steering wheel, all gauges work, new wiring harness, new lights, trim, etc. etc. you get the idea we replaced basically everything. After my Dad passed body work was carried out by The Sporty Car Garage in Springfield Oh in 2003, final assembly was carried out by Macys Garage in 2005/06 who are experts in Triumphs. Mark Macy did the interior and it is very nice. He also converted it to negative ground and I replaced the generator with an alternator. Recovered dash, cappings etc. etc. I have driven the car for 6 or 7 years now and it has held up great. I have put nearly 7000 trouble free (for a 50s British sports car!) miles on it and beyond a flat tire it has never let me down. I have driven Indy to Columbus Ohio and back a few times with no trouble, but I sure wished it had overdrive. It has 7000 miles of wear on it, so it has its share of paint chips and what not but still looks great and drives great. It is not perfect, it never was but I wouldn't have put 7000 miles on it if it had been. It was never meant to be a trailer queen but if that is what you are looking for this is a good start towards one. The only issues with car now is a leaky oil pan gasket which I have a new one for you to put on and the left rear axle seal is leaking a bit and I think the front shocks may need replaced as the front right one seems harsh with little rebound. Also I have always suspected that I have the wrong top bows as the top fits on them oddly, but it may be they were put together wrong when I replaced the webbing on the top bows. Car is sold as is where is, buyer to arrange pick-up, car is located in Carmel Indiana. Please look at the pictures and ask any questions, I will gladly take any specific pictures you may want and e-mail them to you. I have a few spares that go with the car- mirrors that were never installed and I think I have a new set of wind wings somewhere. This has been a fun car, but two kids in college now that think money grows on trees! Again, if you are looking for a show winner right out of the gate keep looking or buy this one and redo it, but if you are looking for a fun weekend cruise-in car this is a good one. Thanks for looking, and please ask questions if you have any.On Mar-23-13 at 09:27:42 PDT, seller added the following information: Cleaning the car today and the passenger door has been difficult opening so I pulled the door panel to check the latch and it was a little twisted, I just ordered a new one from Moss and should have it installed prior to auction end. I also ordered a Tenax assembly to replace a damaged one on the top. ThanksOn Mar-28-13 at 13:22:02 PDT, seller added the following information: Tried to take some pictures of underneath to answer questions about how solid the floors are, not the greatest pics but hope it helps. Floors were replaced during the rebuild and are very solid and rustproofed on the bottom with a sound deadening rubberized product. Thanks. On Mar-29-13 at 11:35:33 PDT, seller added the following information: Had a compression test done today at PFM Automotive, results were (1 to 4) 140 150 156 140. Thanks
