Vehicle Detail

This car was built in the fifties. It retains its original Chevrolet 216 straight six. Mileage indicated on odometer is 49,XXX. However the speedo is in-op. I had a 49 Chevy when I was in the Navy and put close to 140,000 miles on it. It also has the original Chevy three speed with a column shift (chrome mind you). It runs along at 55-65 on the Interstate with ease (GPS indicated). The radio, heater are also in-op. The wipers do work. The lights work and the aftermarket turn signal switch works. It retains its original 6 volt system. It has an 8 volt battery. This is a genuine convertible body with the correct reinforced X frame. It also has a great period Carson top. These were the king of sheik back when. This one is really done well; both inside and outside. The top has been chopped about 2-3 inches. The windshield is a Buick. The exterior has a nice nose and deck job. The headlights are 1957 Cadillac. They are nicely flowed into the body. The grill has a Kaiser grill fitted into the cavity with an Olds shell to give it the right look. Early Thunderbird bumperettes give it the right touch.Spotlights are dummy as was common. Wheels are 14 inch Crager SS’s from the sixties. The tires are bias ply G-78 14’s. They are beginning to blister though. I recently acquired five NOS G78 14 bias ply tires that are in excellent condition. No cracking and they will be included in the sale. The interior has a small wheel of about 14”.The front buckets are Mustang. The driver’s seat has been lowered to accommodate my 6’4” frame. The interior is nicely done in white. The dashboard was spray painted blue. It looks like it was done with some of the AMT candy paint that was popular in fifties. The glove box is empty. The tail lights are of an unknown motorcycle origin. I have a set of new replacement lenses. The originals were leaded in. The trunk was recently pinstriped. The paint is chipped in several places. It is however close to at least 50 years of age. There are a few bubbles in a few spots too. Underneath there is some slight rust issues, as is to expected in a sixty year old car. Nothing major. The exhaust pipe hanger has pulled through and needs attention. I’d hold out for installing a new header where you can then run one pipe with a muffler and one without. I have the manifold. The old timers say that that is the “the sound”. I also have a Fenton twin carb manifold that I will include. Also a split exhaust manifold will be included. One of the vent window frames has broken and needs attention. There are no external door handles. The trunk is operated by remote from the gas cap door. The hood is operated by remote from the interior. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a genuine period custom from back when the little books ruled. Period pieces are becoming extremely desireable. This was featured in Old Cars Weekly lately and was the cover car. This has to be a one of the nicest “barn finds” around.I spoke with the builder’s son-in-law. He helped build it. Nothing but lead was used. I just don’t drive it enough to warrant owning it. I love looking at it. It is titled in my name. This is a Carson top. They do not go up and down. On Mar-23-13 at 12:13:31 PDT, seller added the following information: I just added a "BUY IT NOW" price. I also dropped the reserve considerably. If it goes through reserve, the BIN will disappear and become a horse race. I had it out a few weeks ago. Thanks to our corn fed gas, the idle circuit is stopped up but it starts right up and drives OK.
