Vehicle Detail
This truck has been sitting since the mid ‘90s. About that time the transfer case went inop and was rebuilt along with the transmission. A local mechanic pulled both and sent the transmission to a shop in Statesville for the rebuild. After getting the truck back on the road and putting on new tires it developed a knock in the engine and the owner was unwilling to spend any more money on repairs for this truck. Basically the rebuilt transmission, transfer case and tires have less than 100 miles on them. Even though the tires are old they visibly seem to be in good shape and haven’t had air put in them since it was parked in the 90’s. As the pictures show there’s a lot of rust on the truck. Feel free to come out and inspect before bidding. When I recently trailered this truck all the wheels seemed to turn freely and the brakes were functioning. Clear title in hand. $200 non-refundable deposit required within 48 hours. Balance due within 7 days of auction end, $25/day storage fee every day beyond 10 days. You are responsible for pick so please remember this truck is not running. I will consider delivering for a fee if you can’t transport but arrangements need to be discussed prior to your bidding. Ask all questions before bidding. I'll try and answer some of the questions I've been getting. This truck belonged to my deceased father and was purchased used in 1981. The shop who pulled the transmission and transfer case was Dewayne's Automotive in Mooresville. The transmission was sent to a shop I knew as Keaton's Transmission in Statesville which I believe is Mark's (Keaton) Transmission Service. The transfer case had a gear with a couple teeth broken off which was replaced with a new gear and functioned normally after the repair. My father was told this truck had a 460 when he purchased it and to my knowledge it does. It's been brought to my attention the VIN does not support this. After doing some research it seems the S in the 4th digit of this trucks VIN signifies is came with a 400 2bbl. Honestly I don't know what's in it now so I removed the engine size from the listing. As there's been a bid ebay will not let me remove "460" from the search words at the bottom. I saw no placard under the hood and the placard on the valve cover was no help (see added pictures on photobucket link). If you're considering bidding and it's important to you feel free to come inspect the truck. If someone knows of an easy and definitive way to tell I'll be glad to look. However, I'm not inclined to go crawling around on the ground wiping crud off the block looking for casting numbers. My experience confirming my Cummins was not a 53 block taught me the lack of consistency in where these numbers were placed if they were placed at all. That and the fact this truck pulled a stuck dump truck out of a snow covered ditch on the side of the road without even breaking traction to the astonishment and disbelief of the driver is all I really know about this mean ol' Ford.
