Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE I am selling my early model 1985 Porsche 944 with manual 5 speed. This car gets more looks than any car I have driven, I assume the lowered stance (new lowered springs) and the polished wheels have something to do with this in addition to the red paint. I had planned to completely restore this rust free California car but due to purchasing a 944 Turbo that needs an engine I need the space instead. This car spent its life in California up until recently and as a result has no rust, even in the battery box or under the car. I was amazed at the condition as well as several of my friends. The battery box, like the picture of the rear trunk has absolutely no signs of rot. The car had been repainted years ago and still looks good from a few feet away. I had planned to paint the car and fix the minor dents (under the rear hatch and driver side quarter). I am including a rear driver’s side plastic bumper corner that is painted to match. This changes out with 4 screws, I decided to wait on installation until it was painted. I recently replaced the head gasket, had the head checked for any defects and changed all the top end gaskets as well as the spark plugs. I drove the car daily for a couple of weeks after this work was completed and logged about a 600 miles with no issues. I will note that while the manual transmission performs well it does tend to be a little sticky when cold out and shifting into 2nd and 3rd gear. I don think the transmission has any real issue, I think this is more of a quirk of this car. I also spent almost $400 on parts to convert the sunroof to a manual sunroof and bypass the original electric operation that never seems to work on these cars. Some of the work this car has recently had includes: -Head gasket and all upper seals in the last month -Custom seat covers (front seats) -Momo Shifter boot and knob -Dash Cover (not glued in yet) -Timing and balance shaft belts (last 5000 miles) -Thermostat -Plugs -New damage free front lower valance. -Manual sunroof latches -New replacement power steering high-pressure rubber line and fitting. (Not yet installed since current line is cracked but not yet leaking. The car shows 89,295 but as most 944’s the odometer has stopped working. The person I purchased the car from estimated that he had put an additional 20,000 on the car and with the 600 I have put on I would estimate the mileage to be around 120,000. Once you see the underside of the car or look at the engine, transmission or suspension you will agree it would be hard to imagine that the car has any additional miles. I am INCLUDING with the sale of this car a used but good working instrument cluster. The cluster functions as it should with the only defect being a crack in the glass over the tachometer, an easy part to change from the original cluster. Also included with the car are many additional parts including: -Extra fog lights -Extra seals -Speedometer cluster -Bumper corner painted to match -Good working passenger door handle -Passenger side power window motor -And more The wheels on the car are 16” and are worth lots of money on their own. They are very clean as is and look great. The tires have lots of tread but are dry rotted. While the tires work fine I would recommend changing them before doing any high speed driving out of fear of a possible blow out. The spare tire is also included but due to age and the fact these are collapsing spares I would only recommend this as factory original part and only used in a dire situation. As with any car this age you will find some defects. As previously stated the paint has blemishes and some touch up but looks good from a short distance. The car has some rattles and might leak a little oil, what 944 doesn’t? While the car does NOT leak water in the cabin, some of the seals (included) need to be reinstalled (previous owner removed a couple to prep for paint. Some of the seals should be replaced and some of these are included in the extra parts. The power window on the passenger side as well as the exterior door handle on the same side both need replaced, both parts are included. Air conditioning is complete minus the condenser and the fan switch went out after I purchased the car, both of these items can be purchased for about $150 combined on eBay or I can even help locate the parts. Once the outer door handle is replaced you will need to have the handles re-keyed. I currently only have one key for the ignition and one key for the trunk. I though a stereo in but don’t warranty its condition. I never got around to installing speakers to test it with. Doors have speaker grills in the location of the speaker cutouts, the rear carpet was cut out for speakers and the material under the wholes will need reinforced. If you are looking for a good daily driver or a car to restore you will have a hard time finding one this clean (no rust) with the wheels this car has at this price. All lights work as they should and the breaks including the emergency brake all work correctly as well. While I have tried to list all the blemishes this car has its 28 years old and likely the new owner will discover other items they will want to focus some attention on. Look at my feedback and bid with confidence. The shipping is the responsibility of the buyer but I am willing to meet with a transport company and assist with loading the car. I even have a broker I can refer that does great work at very competitive rates. The car is being sold as is. Buyer is responsible for a $500 non-refundable deposit via PayPal with 24 hours of the auctions end and full payment within 5 days of the end of auction or prior to picking the car up (via PayPal or cash). I have not yet listed to car locally but reserve the right to end the listing early if I sell the car locally.
