I've restored a few of these in the past and started tinkering on this one but kind of ran out of time, so off it goes. The car has had a ton of recent services done, has new tires, and it's pretty straight overall. It will need some fine-tuning and a little work to get it proper, but the car is a great base to work with. It's never seen road salt and is totally free of scaly rust out and under. The interior is presentable, and the reserve is set very low. exterior The truck will need paint to be real pretty, but there's zero rust and really little filler/finish needed. The only noticeable damage is a crease on the passenger side door down low. It's probably mostly original paint except the roof which has been touched up with some kind of metallic paint. The bed is decent inside, wheels are from a Scirocco and look good, and tires are new. The glass is fine as well. You'll need final tweaks or replacements on some of the plastics, bumper adjustments, etc, it's an old truck and shows well in the photos. interior The interior is clean and has been reasonably well kept, but it'll need done if you want a finished vehicle. The seats are worn below the covers, headliner needs recovered, dash has a crack. This is all typical Caddy stuff and should be expected with the age. The bulk of the instruments work fine, speedo, temp gage, fuel gauge as far as I know. I cant guarantee everything works perfect, as in I know the drivers door lock needs some adjustment, but we did replace the outer door handles that are problematic on these, just details. mechanical This truck has had a pretty thorough 'gone-through'. The bigger things: New oil pan gasket, new head gasket, new timing belt, new injector pump seal, valve cover gasket seal, new glow plugs, new alternator, new battery, new oil pressure sensor seal, and a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting. The car had bad oil leaks at the head when it came in, wasn't overheating, but it was puking. The oil pan and valve cover gasket weren't far behind. The bosch injector pump was leaking fierce too, so all that's been handled. The pistons and cylinder walls looked pretty good inside, if it was 90k, I'd say the car hasn't been babied, but it didn't look like a 200k mile motor inside. Yes, we used new head bolts. After we put everything back together we had some issues with a little air leaking into the injectors, and the pump might need re-timed. The truck does smoke, I took the photos with it showing in the photos, not billowing smoke, a little more when it's cold. It's noticeable and will probably need addressed if you intend to drive daily, we're just out of time on this project and I really don't have an ol' VW tech in the house here. No emissions will be guaranteed in the local Denver area. The truck does fire up ok, takes a little cranking, noisy like the 2 I've had before, but idles. It's a little cold blooded here in winter Colorado. It'd run better in warmer weather down by sea level I'm sure. It's definitely doggy, again, probably the injector pump timing, but these things weren't exactly speed demons when new. Also, it may have a bent wheel or a bad shock, at the right speed it kind of humps along. Lastly, we wired up a manual fan switch because we were having a hard time getting the signal from the factory unit. comments This VW has a clean title.
