Yes it really is that beautiful... and yes it's being offered in this no-reserve auction! I work at the local Fiat Studio, where I frequently chat with customers about how Fiat left the U.S. in 1982 and returned 29 years later. But Fiat did not fully leave in 1982... Design house Pininfarina knew the 124 Spider, already a classic (it was introduced in 1966!), was too beautiful and delightful to drive to keep away from the American market, so they kept selling the cars as Pininfarinas through 1985. This is a 1983, the first year of the Pininfarina Azzurra Spider. This is one eye-catching, sharp Pininfarina Spider! The owner is a fellow Fiat club member and went to great lengths to make it a dream car. He bought the car from the original owner in 2006. It was teal with tan top and tan interior at the time. In 2006, he had the transmission rebuilt with a kit from IAP, replaced the battery, brakes and exhaust, and worked on the front suspension. Since then he kept the Fiat garaged, and it was driven about 600 miles a year. The owner serviced the engine once a year at the time of inspection. The interior was completely gutted and replaced, dash-seats-carpet, etc. (all from IAP in 2008). The exterior was stripped down to bare metal with all molding and lights removed; what little rust and the car was repainted professionally by a Dupont technician in 2010. The paint is truly stunning. Check out the reflections in the photos! Top was replaced in 2011 and is as new. Most recently the owner replaced the driver side tail light circuit board, and the air flow meter in the engine. While they replaced the air flow meter, the fuel rail and fuel injectors were removed and cleaned. Tires have great tread and wheels are in excellent shape. I listed this car last month and at that time noted it had a significant issue to address, which was that the electrical system was not steady. It was slightly noticeable during the day but at night a notable problem in that the lights flickered. I had my favorite Italian car technician look it over and he found a bad voltage regulator was the cause, so that is fixed. NO ELECTRICAL ISSUE ANY MORE! While the car was in the shop my mechanic noted one exhaust hanger needs replacement, and while the car burns no oil, it does have an oil leak. Nothing major -- has not left a mark on my garage floor even -- but this does need to be fixed as you'll smell oil when the engine's hot. If you are local or trucking the car, non-issue, but if you want to drive it home I can work with you to get this to a place where it can be fixed before your trip. Everything on the car works. The stereo is a nice aftermarket Panasonic with powerful 6X9 speakers in boxes behind the front seats (there are no rear seats in this car). The air conditioning has been removed from the car -- it is included in a separate box (shown in the photo), but we have no information on its functioning (it looks good).Please ask any questions and I, or my friend the owner will get you the information right away. Test drives are encouraged if time allows. It's time for this Spider to help its new owner get ready for spring, so this is a NO RESERVE auction!
