Vehicle Detail
I have sold 2 other vehicles on eBay which were good experiences for myself and the buyer, mostly because of the detailed description. Im not trying to scare anyone off a great car, i just want to make every detail about the car known to the very best of my ability. Read on.. This car was restored by my father and brothers. The restoration took several years, and was completed in 1991. We kept it several years, primarily for car shows and ice cream rides. My father eventually sold it to a coworker who kept it about 13 years, barely driving it. After my fathers passing, we contacted the owner and bought it back, enjoying it the last 3 years. Unfortunately, it's time to see it go once more. The car is as it was when the restoration was finished. The color is not original,. It was, to my knowledge, silver/gray with a red interior. The engine and transmission are original to the car. The engine was rebuilt at some point during the restoration , although I have no additional details about that, Most of the sheetmetal was replaced during the restoration, and is rust-free, including the floor pans and trunk, I would not categorize this vehicle as a concours correct, national show contender, but it IS an amazingly sharp looking driver that would be very much at home at your local car show or cruise. I'm not an old Mustang expert. I know that during the restoration, some choices were made to suit dads taste, sometimes utilizing a '71 or '73 part that he found more asthetically pleasing. The engine runs great. Its a 302 with the factory 2 barrel carb. The exhaust is a custom dual set up with turbo mufflers and sounds great, although not obnoxiously loud. The only engine related issue i am aware of is when the car sits for more than a few days, the fuel drains back to the tank, and takes a lot of cranking to draw it back up to start. I believe its a fuel pump issue, I have a new one waiting in the box for you to put on. Its no rocket ship, but it can get out of its own way reasonably well. Stopping, on the other hand, is another story. Be aware, young drivers especially, this car has four wheel drum brakes. It stops well (extremely well for what it is) but its different to drive than a modern all disc vehicle. All brake hardware was recently replaced, including the drums, shoes, wheel cylinders. The tires have barely any wear on them, and while we're talking about tires, they're mounted on a set of Magnum 500's with he 3 point center caps. They're in nice shape, a few very minor pits on a couple of the rims. The body and paint are also in amazing shape for a 20-some year old restoration. Ive tried to show blemishes in the pics. There are a few scratches in front of the driver side tire, low, on the black stripe. There's a dime size ding on the passenger side fender, and a scrape that someone touched up on the edge of the front passenger wheel opening,. these are fairly minor, and most people dont notice them until they are pointed out. There are some cracks in the paint on the rubber front bumper as well, if you can make them out in the pictures. The convertible top is in excellent shape, and the power mechanism works perfectly. In the trunk is the boot that covers the top then its down, also in great shape. The trunk needs nothing more than some minor cleaning. No rust, and has the original style mat and spare tire cover. As you can see in the pics, the interior looks sharp, and is all black. If you look closely, in the side panels in the back, aftermarket speakers were installed, and there are a pair of speakers in the top of the dash that were also aftermarket add-ons. It has an AM/FM Cassette player. the casssete player isn't functioning, i imagine it needs to be cleaned. the carpets were new in 1991 and in fine shape. The seats were also recovered at that time. In my opinion, the padding on the bottom of the front seats could use restuffing, it feels like you sit low in the car. You may be able to see in the pics, that there is a very small hole in the outer side of the driver side seat back. The car has an original center console, which i remember being a difficult find during restoration. the ashtray insert is missing however. Gauges and warning lights appear to be functioning correctly, the exceptioin being the fuel gauge which does not seem to go all the way down. The heater and its controls also work, although the slider that selects Warm/Cool air feels sticky, maybe needs some lube sprayed in it. This is as honest of a representation of the car as i can give. Ive mentioned every issue that i can think of, however minor some may seem. Those issues aside, it really is a great car, and Id keep it if that option was available to me. Feel free to send any questions and although as I said, Im no vintage Mustang expert, ll answer your questions as quickly as possible. Thanks for your time! On Jan-20-13 at 12:41:34 PST, seller added the following information: As a postscript, one of my brothers read the description and said while it was very honest, he felt I was actually a little too hard on the car. It IS a really sharp car. Its ALWAYS been garage kept, of course, and it had put an awful lot of trophies in my fathers case while we ran it around the local shows in the late 90's. There was alot of effort to keep the car as factory correct as possible, while adding the convenience/comfort items dad thought important at the time. I'm happy (and Dad would be) too see the amount of early bidding activity. It's a great car and Im sure if the auction ends with a buyer, they will be very satisfied with what they bought. THANK YOU..
