Vehicle Detail

Relisting Triumph Spitfire I have owned since March 2002 at lower start bid, no reserve, with about 50,000 miles on the engine/rebuilt vehicle (I put about 1,500 mi per year on the car for ten years). Mileage represents mileage on new engine. I paid $20,000 for this baby because I believe there is no other Spitfire quite like it anywhere. The engine is blueprinted and was built by Rick Cline of Rick Cline Racing near Sebring Florida (see body decals). Racing headers, SUV performance carbs, and a changed compression ratio (bored out cylinders), and a modified timing (42 degrees before top dead center). The owner was a retired race official at Sebring. The car was built from the chassis of one “Road Rally/Racing” Spitfire (with racing suspension-Komi Classic shocks) and two other wrecked Spitfires (presumably that raced in the under 2 liter division there) that were bought from salvage at the Sebring track. The original color was red. The colors now are white, “Mack Truck Blue,” and “Fire Engine Red.” The car has nearly new Dunlop tires, custom wheels, a Motolita steering wheel, but someone just stole the wheel cover (compare photos) and a custom shift knob that was made to match the Motolita wheel. The upholstery was a custom job also, although there are a few minor cloth stains now. There is a matching radio mounting bracket in the trunk for anyone who wants to install a radio. Car comes with car cover, tonneau cover, and boot cover, all in beige to match the beige rag top. The car has two dings I am aware of. First, I let my teenage son drive it, and he promptly banged the front right tire into a curb by taking a left turn too fast (he didn’t realize the things this car can and can’t do). This required me to replace that bent wheel and tire, and it left a small indentation in the firewall on the right side under the hood. Second, I did a similar thing while driving on a very gravelly road in the country. I fishtailed and spun out on a hairpin left turn and the car ended up sliding off the road and the rear bumper got caught by the chicken wire fence of the adjoining farmer. The bumper was scratched, so I had it repainted and had the painter touch up other places where paint had chipped off over time (mainly on the edge of the trunk lid on the left and a couple of other places where friction between parts knocked paint off. There is other rub wear and spot rust in photos. I also replaced the choke cable and the master brake cylinder fairly recently, and I know of no current mechanical problems. There is some pitting of some steel or chrome components but no serious rust I know of but I haven't looked carefully and am no expert. This is a great weekend driver that could be restored if desired. Mechanically, it may be one of the best Spitty's available. You are welcome and advised to inspect before bidding or buying. CAR IS SOLD AS IS WHERE IS WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. Information is provided for description purposes. Magnet in overdrive was replaced a couple of years ago and works fine. Also, just found that one of the male snaps on body for covers has broken thread and should be replaced. BUYER RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL TAXES, SHIPPING, TRANSPORT, AND TRANSFER COSTS and FEES!
