Vehicle Detail

1949 MERCURY CONVERTIBLE This is a solid, rust-free 1949 original factory steel body convertible with a conservative but tasteful custom design - a very cool custom and a great ride! Engine: The car is powered by a factory balanced and blueprinted 426 Hemi engine (1966). It has a new Holley 750 bbl carburetor and intake, a new MSD electronic ignition and a new Carter high performance fuel pump. The engine also has Arias pistons and bronze valve guides, Keith Black mag valve covers, a street performance cam with stainless steel headers and exhaust, and a Mopar stock radiator with electric fan. The engine compartment is accented by a mirror finish stainless steel firewall. ". . . (the) torrid 426 'Street Hemi' is the most potent engine ever offered by Detroit for street use." - High Performance Cars Drivetrain: The car has a 727 Torque Flite transmission with a GM 12 bolt posi-traction rear, 3:25:1 ratio. Suspension: The car sits on a 1972 Olds subframe, has coil springs and sway bars, air shocks (rear) with a under dash power control. Interior: The car's interior has the original 1949 dash gauges and radio, with a 12 volt conversion. The seats are navy blue pleated leather, front and rear and navy blue carpeting. It also has power windows, power steering, power disc brakes (front), a power front driver seat and a Imperial telescopic tilt steering wheel. The door sill plates are also polished stainless steel. Exterior: The car has a navy blue Hartz cloth powered convertible top with an under dash control. Its mild custom design is accented by frenched headlights, a nosed hood, decked trunk, and shaved doors. The front and rear chrome is in excellent condition as well as the chrome on the original grille. The car also has cruiser skirts (fiberglass) and original Appleton spotlights. Paint Color: The color is unique. It shows blue in the sunlight and near black in the shade. It is a PPG Radiance, black with silver and pearl tinted light blue. The color is accented by tastefully done pinstriping on the hood, deck and around the headlights. Wheels: The tires are Coker Radial Classic Wide Whites with Dayton custom made stainless steel wire wheels (front). The car has won numerous awards including Goodguys "Cool Custom" and "Cool Convertible" and the prestigious "Top 20 Mercs Award" at the James Dean Run. The car has also been autographed by Gene Winfield, Bill Ries and the world-renowned King of Customs George Barris, who said "This is a very nice car!"
