Vehicle Detail
This is an incredible 1973 Pontiac Trans Am (Firebird). I am the second owner and it has always been garage kept. It has been stored undriven for the last 22 years. It has a Super Duty 455 Engine & a turbo 400 automatic transmission. My best friend bought the car new in 1973, and it was a Formula 400. In 1976, the Pontiac dealer where he purchased the car put the Trans Am front end on it...hood, fenders, shaker, front spoiler. He also had a new Trans Am Dashboard installed. He had H.O. (of Southern California) custom build a Super Duty 455 Engine, then had the dealership install the new engine in the car. He had a four-row radiator built for it, and had Doug Thorley (in Southern California) build the headers for it. American Sunroof (which is where the dealer(s) would have have sent it) installed the power sun roof. It has Recaro bucket seats. It has a Blaupunkt steereo. The interior is in almost perfect condition. It has B.B.S. Real Magnesium (Not Aluminum) wheels. They are bolt together wheels with Titanium bolts. It has posi-traction rear end, with 308 gears. It comes with a set of 342 gears also. My friend removed the heat and air conditioning from under the hood. It has black steel louvers on the rear windshield. It has chromed Anson Ground-Grabber traction bars. It has the largest diameter anti-sway bars (available at that time) and Gabrial Adjustible "E" shocks. The car is currently NOT in running condition, though I believe it would take a minimum amount of work to get it to that point. In 1990, the harmonic balancer hub broke, while the engine was idling in my garrage (not flying down the road fortunately) and broke the timing chain, which was only recently determined. I purchased the Cloyes Double-Roller timing set, a new harmonic balancer, a new gasket set, and a new woodruff key (These would come with the car). Life has been so crazy, unfortunatley, I just don't have the time to invest into getting it running (would like to dissasemble, clean, lube, re paint parts, re-polish intake and reassemble. We have just recently made the discovery of what happened, so the pictures show the engine partially disassembled. I have all original and the new parts needed for reassembly. The paint was redone in approximately 1977. There are a few small chips in the paint, but overall EXCELLENT condition. The body is in EXCELLENT condition!!!!! The overall condition of the car is EXCELLENT!!!!! 42,000 Original Miles on the car, the Super Duty 455 has just over 14,000 Miles on it (the new TA dash was installed same time as motor at dealer, odometer had O miles when motor was started)! WOW!! Please feel free to ask any questions. The seller has the right to cancel the listing at any time. The buyer is responsible for the shipping/pick up of the car. INCREDIBLE Car!!! The muscle car enthusiast will absolutely love it!!!!!!!!! My understanding is that H-O Racing Specialties built a stock SD 455 with all the correct SD specific parts, the heads, forged pistons, forged connecting rods, Rockchester 800 carb, etc. My friend told me today that he still has the paperwork for this transaction someplace? The intake is the aluminum equal to the stock cast iron one with the thermostat section separated. The headers were made for this car, never had SD exhaust manifolds. It has the original Turbo 400 trans and 10 bolt rear end. The car was idling in my garage when the harmonic balancer broke and in turn broke the timing chain (I did not know this at the time, thought it was something catastrophic). Got married, we had 4 kids and put the car way down the list of prioraties. Just recently took the timing cover off to find out what happend after 22 years of sitting in my garage. SD 455's have 8.5 to 1 compression and not a giant lift on the cam, think there probably is no valve damage under the circumstances, but don't know for sure. This car is purchased as is, and we are being forthright about everything we know about the condition of the car.
