OVERVIEW
Those of you who regularly watch my listings know that I have a special affinity for the Factory Five Racing crew, and have had some of Dave Smith's nicest Cobra's, Type 65's, GTM's, and Ford Replicas roll in and out of my life over the years. Most recently, the 1933 Ford Roadster that was built on televisions Two Guys Garage, which I sold right here on eBay last year!
The products they build so far eclipse the OEM manufaturer in fit, finish, and attention to detail, that it is almost like buying your own custom built race car!
This example is one of the finest I have seen yet, and is a combination of full hardtop coupe, AND a full roadster, thanks to both kits being optioned on it.
With about $60,000 spent in parts alone, NOT INCLUDING labor, this incredibly documented build could not be replicated today for anything close to the reserve.
Please take a moment to read the entire listing, review the 100 extra large photos, and digest all of the information. If you have any questions at that point, or would like to make an offer to purchase the car with a BUY IT NOW, please feel free to call me at (941)286-0889.
CONDITION REPORT
First off, the condition of this car is NEW. Like, less than 400 test miles BRAND NEW. So I won't spend time going over condition of this, that, and the other, except to point out any minor marks or issues to you.
This is actually TWO cars in one. I say that, because not only does it come with the full hardtop, which has a headliner and it's own one piece windshield, but also the complete roadster windscreen and faux convertible top cover so you can make it a full fledged roadster!
Most people only do one or the other, but this car has both!
The parts order from Factory Five on this build is $27,207.00, and that is WITHOUT SALES TAX! This does NOT include the engine, transmission, rear end, brakes, gauges, and all the other options and upgrades, little and big, I will detail below.
The body on the car was completely blocked, all doors removed and checked for exceptional fit, and then assembled prior to being treated to multiple coats of PPG Silver Metallic Flake base/clear.
It was then lovingly hand sanded and layered with clear which has been buffed to a mirror finish.
The paint is exceptional, and has very few signs of wear from being driven during the break-in period. Some tiny stone chips and a small scuff or two, but no big scrapes, dents, peeled paint, or flaking.
The silver color is fantastic for the car, and looks just as nice on the Factory Five website as it does in person on the car. It shines in the sunlight, and sparkles under a street lamps glow. It has an awesome depth to it that almost makes the color shift depending on where you are standing when you look at it.
This is the kind of finish out you expect when you invest over $3,500 in painting a car that is this size.
Driver and passenger door shut with a clean thunk, and no rattle or tin can sound like some cars have. They are solid latched, and are suicide doors with ample room to allow my 5'11" 250 pound body to get in and out with ease.
Reverse mount hood is easily opened with the inside release, and tilts up to reveal the ultra clean engine bay. The hood top was modified with a custom functional hood scoop to allow air in. The hood sides were sent out to have custom perforated side vents installed, again to keep the car cool in the Florida summer.
Both the top and sides of the hood are removeable if you prefer an open engine look.
Trunk is fully sealed with weatherstripping and also has an inside release. You will note in the pictures below that it has a small gap when closed. This is due to the fact that the car has only been together for a few months, and has spent most of its short life in an air conditioned garage with the trunk open so a battery tender could maintain charge on the OPTIMA Red Top battery. The weather seal is still so firm that it seals when pushed, but needs to be in the warm air to settle more. You can also adjust the latch set up as specified on many web forums to allow it to pull down harder on the seals, thus settling them sooner. A non-issue, just a small part of the break-in period on such a new build.
The car rides on brand new Ford Racing GT500 show chromed rims, which are 17" up front and 18" in the rear. The rims are in as-new condition, with no flaws or issues evident.
They are wrapped in new Dunlop DIREZZA Sport Z1 performance radial tires, which are also in exceptional, and damage free condition.
Tires are sized P245/40R17 up front, and P275/35R18 in the rear.
The removeable full hardtop comes off without too much effort, and will reveal a stunning full roadster that comes complete with a whole new windshield and faux rear deck cover to finish the look. The windshield is brand new from Factory Five, and is still in the box, while the rear cover is new and still in bubble wrap.
I have provided one photo of the car with the top removed, sans windshield, for you to review. It looks great both ways, and should take anyone with a modicum of mechanical ability and a friend to help lift things less than 30 minutes to make the swap.
Headlights are full function high/low units with a retro look finished in show chrome plating. They are in as-new condition, and have the front turn signals built into them at the bottom for a clean look.
Rear tail lights also have signal lamps built in, and have a chrome surround for appearance.
Chrome hot rod mirrors are fully functional and in as-new condition.
Chrome door handles have a vintage Ford look, and both of them lock with the included key for security.
Finally, a chrome aircraft style fuel door rests on the drivers side top rear deck. This was installed to replace the original Factory Five unit inside the trunk lid to allow full speed refueling with the longer inlet line.
All of the glass on the car is DOT approved, and is in as-new condition with no damage or issues.
The chassis on the car is all Factory Five, and was completely smoothed and finished prior to full black powdercoating being applied.
Here are the specifications on the chassis:
The frame is an all-new, completely modern, extremely rigid, and yet aesthetically pleasing, tubular steel space-frame.
The ultra-rigid frame is made of mig-welded, high strength carbon steel tubing and plate steel. This unique design delivers great torsional rigidity, increased cockpit space, and numerous safety features.
Each frame is finish welded by hand, but supported by CAD designed tooling, high quality materials, and CNC?robotics. The CAD/CAM based jigs are built with laser-cut tooling steel and hold parts to a high level of accuracy.
- Single full-width removable roll bar can be used with roadster or hardtop. Made from 11/2 “ OD, .120” wall DOM tubing.
- Safety designed collapsible steering column and bolt-on mounts for Wilwood pedal box.
- High performance and partially concealed cantilever style in-board KONI™ mono-tube coil-over shocks and tubular front suspension control arms are standard.
- CAD designed tubular steel frame with backbone delivers tremendous torsional rigidity AND a low vehicle weight. The welded assembly weighs only 275 lbs. total!
- The vehicle/chassis is 3” wider than the original FORD car. This makes more space in the cockpit. The rearward and low engine placement delivers low center of gravity and optimum front/rear weight distribution.
- Hood, doors, and trunk all mount directly to the steel frame, not the body shell. Doors are authentic rear-hinged “suicide doors” design.
- Side impact protection, DOT?door latches, tubular steel door liners, and welded driveshaft safety hoops are some of the safety features built into the ‘33 frame.
- Bolt-on engine mounts and adjustable transmission mounts installed
- Elegent truss-style round tube design is visable when the car is used without engine side covers.
The beauty and strength of the Factory Five ’33 frame is complimented by a modern race proven suspension up front and out back.
The front suspension is a radical in-board coil-over design with elegant yet strong tubular upper and lower control arms. This modern front suspension design delivers razor sharp handling and positive feedback while telling the world that this car does more than go in a straight line.
Clearly visible from behind (which is where most drivers will see the car from) is the proven Factory Five OPTIONAL 3-link solid axle suspension with high-end Koni coil-over shocks and tubular control arms. The rear suspension was lifted directly from Factory Five's Challenge Series Racers, cars that have proven themselves on the track for more than eight years.
Brakes are Ford Racing 11" rotors with twin piston racing calipers up front, and 10.5" Ford Racing units out back.
Steering is courtesy of a full manual rack-in-pinion set up with just 3.25 turns lock to lock. It really lets you feel a one on one connection with the car, and is super easy to drive.
A WILWOOD full performance pedal box has dual master cylinders, brake, accelerator, and clutch pedals all spaced perfectly.
The car handles and stops like an SCCA race car, and really screws with traditional rodders heads when they see you NOT slowing down for corners!
The rear end is a MOSER 8.8 Posi-Trac unit with 3.31 gears, 31 spline axles, and FR axle stud girdle with a fully welded housing. It is a high dollar unit built for the rigors of autocross racing.
The driveshaft is a custom balance unit, and mates the MOSER rear end to the brand new TREMEC TKO 5-speed manual transmission.
This transmission is THE go-to choice for racing on the street, strip, or track thanks to its reliability, reputation, ease of maintenance, and fantastic throws.
A CENTERFORCE Performance dual friction clutch assembly makes sure every gear change is crisp and sure, while a FR safety bell housing makes sure occupants are protected too.
When it came time to power this monster, a BRAND NEW Ford Racing crate 392ci motor was ordered, and built to the absolute hilt with the best in components and parts to create a supremely reliable, incredibly powerful, and exceptionally beautiful powertrain.
Some of the basic specs on the motor are as follows:

AND ABOUT $3,000 WORTH OF TRU-TRAC SERPENTINE BELT SYSTEM IN SHOW FINISH TO TIE EVERYTHING TOGETHER!!!
There has been over $14500 spent on the powertrain on this car, and it is ALL in like new condition with under 400 miles since completion!
All of the wiring throughout the car is brand new, and is loomed professionally for neatness and an OEM type appearance.
The car has a ridiculous amount of power, and has a fantastic sounding rumble that lets everyone around know that the car means business!
Dyno tested at almost 500hp at 5600 rpm and just over 500 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm, this powertrain can scoot the car around the track, down the strip, or up the freeway with ease.
Inside, the car has been treated to a full layer of DYNAMAT sound and heat dampening material prior to being covered in black, German-weave style ALL WEATHER carpeting. This is so you do not have to worry as much should you get caught in a downpour while driving with the top off!
The driver heel pad area has an aluminum panel in place to prevent wear, and the carpet still shows as new.
Door panels are covered in a pleated faux water resistant leather that shows great, and has stitched armrests in place for driver and passenger.
Billet inside door pulls actuate the doors with ease.
The full metal racing frame seats were padded and covered in water resistant faux leather before the SIMPSON 5-point racing harnesses were installed. They all show like new, and function as they should.
Autometer PLATINUM SERIES professional gauges are installed in the dash, and all appear to function as they should.
A VINTAGE AIR control panel also resides on the dash, and provides control over ice cold air, toasty heat, defrost, and vent settings.
The A/C compressor unit is show polished, and the system is R134 from inception.
The trunk of the car is fully finished and carpeted to match the interior, and has a prop rod, and a custom mount for the Red Top OPTIMA battery. It has been maintained on a battery tender since new, and has 100% charge.
This is a top of the line build out, and is one of the nicest FACTORY FIVE cars we have had. It has spent most of its life in air conditioned storage, and has just under 400 carefully broken in miles with a complete fluid flush and change completed not long ago.
The car needs absolutely nothing, and performs exactly as it should in every way.
There are no known issues, no leaks, no weeps, no problems, and nothing at all that needs to be addressed.
It comes to you complete with a vast majority of the build receipts, build photos as shown below, one new assembly manual, one working assembly manual with hand written notes, manuals, paperwork and receipts for most all of the components on the car, and more.
Two ignition keys and two door keys come with the car as well.
The car has a FLORIDA title as a 1933 Model year, and is currently licensed and registered in the State as such.
