Vehicle Detail
I have decided to re-list this car at a significantly lower reserve than the first time. If you read the description below, you will see that this is NOT a parts car worth $500. I would like some space in my garage. This car is the 1984 Mercedes Benz 300 CD, a true hard top coupe without a pillar when all four widows are down. Just under 1,100 of these were built in 1984, around 8,000 built during it's 8 year run. I have had this car since December 2007 after driving a 300D four-door for a while. This car is blue metallic with original tan interior. The dash is black and has no cracks. There are no cracks anywhere on the trim. There are no rips in the seats. Every gauge works including the tach. Every light in the dash works. The map and reading lights work. I live in Orange County and take this car out on the weekends, putting only 8,000 miles on it since 2007. I took it to Pismo Beach for a day trip and did not have any problems during the 400 miles. I got almost 30 mpg with careful driving. This is exempt from emissions tests. I have have changed the oil myself the last few times and this motor does not use oil between the changes. The car shifts and goes like any good-running W123 body diesel. There is a working CD player. All four windows work. The sunroof works and does not leak. The clock keeps perfect time. I have $2220 in receipts. Every receipt since 2007 is available. The following items have been done: Radiator/thermostat, front tires (rears are still great), upgraded drilled/vented/zinc-dipped disc brakes (no dust/loud squeal), upgraded Bilstein SPORT shocks all around, new hood ornament and grill inserts, license plate front bracket, and new set of keys (including the valet). The Mercedes Benz (from W.I. Simonson MB dealer) battery is at 5 years but the engine still starts on the first turn of the key. I am confident it will last another couple of years. There are a couple of issues that could be attended to later for the buyer. The A/C leaks after a couple of weeks. I have not used the A/C portion since 2008. The heater/fresh air and automatic temp control work great. The passenger door lock does not turn. The antenna motor works but the stem stays down. So I just pull it up when I want. The cruise control does not work. They hardly ever work on these W123 body cars. The headliner could be retucked in the front, but is only down about an inch and does not obstruct vision while driving. There is a small area of rust on the driver side under the floor where the curve is outside the rocker. It's NOT on the frame. Photos upon request. It will require a bit of patching, but nothing too major. There is hardly such a thing as a W123 coupe body without any rust as this is typical for this kind of car. The outside bodywork is perfect, including behind the wheels. There is 1/4 inch play in the gearshift but stays in gear, nothing major there either according to my MBZ specialist. The previous owner was kind enough to leave all the original manuals, first aid kit, triangle kit, tool kit, and other items in the car. I also picked up a centerfold brochure of the 300D from the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Germany which the new owner will get. The original owner purchased this car on the "import program". This means that the owner drove the car around for a while in Germany before bringing it over to the US. So some service records from Germany will be included. I have set the reserve under the amount I paid for it before the upgrades in the suspension and brakes were complete. I lowered this price because my other car sold for a lot more than I thought. My reserve the first time was $7000, but I am flexible because of my sale on the other car. Bid to win, not to haggle. Thanks for looking and happy bidding. Two days ago, this was a $5,400 car. Today it's not even worth $2k to anyone? I'm going to pull this auction pretty soon and just keep the car. My sister had a 300CD with over 330,000, needed everything, needed tires, no a/c, the paint was shot, one or two of the windows did not work, and she still got $3k for it.
