Vehicle Detail
1981 Vanguard ComutaCarVIN: 1111B1C20BS000860 This little guy has been garage-kept for all of its life and is in very good condition, but is currently not operating and will require a small amount of work to get it back on the road. We had this out many times and it performed well...even took it through a drive-through in the snow in Utah. It's max speed was between 40 or 45...but passengers in the car rarely request to try and go any faster. PROS:-- The car is street legal. Until recently, it was licensed and tagged with Ohio plates.-- The car body is in good shape, with a few exceptions (see below). All of the rivits and seams on the car are in great shape. The window seals are good, too.-- The electric/wiring in the car is in excellent shape and has had a full custom update, re-wire and make-over with extra safety precautions added in.-- Controller is a new Curtis model.-- The interior of the car is in excellent condition with all original pieces still functioning and in place.-- Battery boxes are new and very solid with extra parts to keep batteries locked in place.-- A connection for an extra volt meter was added to help enable you to better calculate the battery power remaining. CONS:-- The car needs 8 new 6-volt batteries.-- The electric is in need of a repair. Everything major was operational, but at last check with working batteries, the motor would not engage. Power was getting through to the controller, but an undiagnosed problem exists. If you know your electrics, you will be able to get to the bottom of it, and I suspect it is a minor fix. Still, it is a problem.-- A crack at the bottom of the driver's door could use a fix (see photos) and the plastic has acquired some marbling in a few spots due to being towed. -- At one point in time the car had lettering on each door which has since been removed, but the plastic seems to be faded slightly in some of those spots. This does not show up in the photos and is not immediately visible, but is there. The car comes with 2 chargers -- one for the 6-volt battery pack (main power) and one for the 12-volt (lights and horn) under the seat. There is also a box of extra parts -- dash switches, battery testers, tail lights, bulbs, brake fluid, rear-view mirror, heavy-gauge battery cables, cooling fan, etc...a lot of specific bonus stuff for this car. The ComutaCar was also featured in a film called The Guatemalan Handshake, which screened at film festivals and art house theaters in 2006-2007. A DVD of that movie will be included as well as links to some clips highlighting the car's trip to Utah and back for a premiere screening in 2006. The original car manual is included. It has diagnostics of many of the parts as well as instruction manuals for the chargers and new controller. Prior repairs to the car have been cataloged and those will be included. If I can find the original blue prints for the car, which were included with it when I bought it, I will include those as well. Please see the photos for more details. It's a fun car and if you're a weirdo, you'll love it.I'll do my best to answer any questions about the car, but I'm not an electrician, so don't go too crazy.
