Up for sale is my 1974 Suzuki GT 550. I am the original owner; I purchased this bike in 1975. I only rode the bike during the summer months and even then very little. In 1979 I replaced the speedometer as a result of frosting on the glass, I did not replace the tach because I could still see and read it. When I replaced the speedometer it had 1323 original miles showing, I wrote the miles on the bike registration to remember it. Once the new speedometer was in place I rode an additional 512 miles, this is the current reading on the bike now, so a grand total of 1835 original miles is all the bike has been driven. I parked it in 1980 after my last ride that summer in my Mom and Dad’s garage and in 32 years that is where it has been. I guess I had all intentions to fix it up one day but at age 56 I just don’t have the interest to do so any more. The bike is all original except for the speedometer. It is missing the Master Cylinder, brake lever and bracket on the right side and the chrome nut on the air breather and the knob for the GT 550 cover on the left. The bike did run, and run very well before I parked it that year. I did climb on and try the kick starter to make sure it was not locked up, that brought back some memories as it sounded the same as I remember. I did not try to start it; I only wanted to turn the engine over to make sure. This bike is in buy as is condition and remember that it has been setting 32 years, so yes the chrome has some rust spots, what I would call normal. I think for a few hundred it could be running again like before, if you don’t want to fix it up, well then it would be great for parts to part out. With the low miles associated with this bike and some good old fashion tender loving care it could look new again. I forgot to mention that the bike still has the original tires that were on it when I brought it home that first day. Happy bidding.
