I have tried to be as thorough as possible in order to answer any and all questions you might have. I am offering for sale my unrestored original and nearly rust free CA black plate 1965 Porsche 356 C Karmann Coupe (VIN 221964), with thorough history and complete service records from 1972 on. I am the 3rd owner of the car. The current paint is the original color, Irish Green (6406), with Black leatherette/B interior. The car comes with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity (COA), showing the existing matching number engine (717265) and transmission (85749; 741/2C). The car has a clean California title and two sets of keys. At its present condition this is an every day driver quality car with a freshly rebuilt engine; even the radio and clock work.Mechanically the car is solid and sound. The previous owner (the 2nd. Owner), has maintained this Porsche as his daily driver since 1972. The car comes with all those service & repair records. The engine was overhauled in January of 2012, and since then has only 300-400 miles on it so it is still being broken in. NOS cylinders and pistons from NPR were used, instead of the substandard Chinese aftermarket parts. The cylinder heads were rebuilt as well as the carburetors, starter, alternator, etc. Every part in the engine is still original, no aftermarket or replacement parts have been used. All the sheet metal in the engine has been powder coated. The engine runs smoothly and has no leaks. The car has a brand new battery and battery cables. The rear shocks and the front steering shock are the original Koni parts. The car has all the original stamped matching number body panels. The floorboards and jacks are original. The undercarriage still has the original factory under coating. No rust repairs, cutting or welding has been done to the car.Naturally there are a few surface rust spots, such as on the floorboards, as seen in the detail picture, given that the car is 47 years old. Overall, the body is extremely solid. This car has never left California according to the previous owner, thus the exceptional condition of its body. This car is not made of bondo like many of the other 356’s on the market. After a final search through the whole car I found a one spot in the passenger side back corner of the engine compartment where there is a very small perforated area. This spot is on the rear engine pan, in the engine compartment, approximately 4” (10 cm) long and perhaps 4-5 mm wide, (picture SDC11258.JPG). Water sits in this crevice after the car has been washed, thus the small perforation. The Interior has the correct Porsche Square Weave carpeting and rubber mats. The door panels and the interior quarter panels are original, still in good condition. The seats have headrests, which you can find only in the last year of production. The original headliner is in good condition, it is clean and has no odor of cigarette smoke. The exterior paint has couple of fading spots on the roof, driver’s door and on the passenger side front fender, the paint is simply worn through on these spots and the primer is showing through, from years of polishing the car. There are only three things that are not original in this car:-The exterior paint; the car was repainted in the 80’s.-The battery box floor has been replaced, as per factory standards, using the correct parts-The front seats and headrests were newly padded and re-upholstered once, using leather. This car can be used as an every day driver as it is for years to come, with good care and maintenance. Should you decide to restore the car, either not or at a later date; consider the following facts:1) This is a rust and accident free, with history & records, number matching car with a Porsche COA, from California, the best place to buy a Porsche 356 from2) The paint and body work on the car is minimal, this car does not need the usual $ 10,000 body repair before paint – the body of this car is exceptional.3) The engine and transmission have already been rebuilt The reserve price of this car reflects the above facts, however, it is cheaper to buy this car than the typical $30,000 car that needs a lot of metal work and the drive train rebuild. The values of Porsche 356’s are only going up and every year there are less and less samples like this left. The car is sold ‘as-is’, given that it is 47 years old. I welcome and encourage personal inspection prior to purchase. There are independent inspectors who can perform a pre-purchase inspection for out of the country buyers, for a fee and I can help you to get directed to them or you can find them through Porsche Register. I'm also happy to help you with shipping arrangements if necessary. Interested in inspection, please, email me or call at 626-376-8756.
