Vehicle Detail

This auction is for my 1986 Jeep CJ7. There is so much to tell about this thing that I don't even know where to begin. Please read below for all of the specifics and ask all questions prior to bidding. On top of what's listed below, I have a huge pile of receipts, paperwork and shop manuals that go with it. There are some issues with the Jeep that I want to get out of the way first. The wheel bearings on the passenger side front are in extremely bad shape and an axle seal on the passenger side rear is leaking badly. These items need addressed before the Jeep can be driven any great distance and I strongly suggest that you bring a full trailer with you when you come to pick it up. I would not flat tow it with the bad bearings and seals. It will not pass a Pennsylvania state inspection as it sits. Those are the only major issues that I am aware of. The body is in very good shape overall. There is some paint fading and one spot of rust along the passenger side rear quarter that can be seen in the picture. It is very straight and in extremely good condition for it's age. The top is a Bestop Supertop with 2 piece full soft doors. It is only a few years old and the fabric is not ripped or torn in any way. It is slightly sun faded. The windows are still very clear. The top is black denim in color. The Jeep also comes with a set of full hard doors with roll up windows. The paint color is consistent with the body color (black). The doors are in excellent condition yet have some minor scuffs, scrapes and dents from storage. They would look fine as is, or you could do some minor body work/paint and have them looking like brand new. The interior panels on the hard doors are intact, in good shape and fully functional. The rocker guards are Durango 4x4 brand. They are in good condition and very straight, but they are starting to get some light surface rust. They could stand to be re-painted. The windshield frame is a brand new stock replacement unit that was professionally painted and installed at a local body shop. The frame has brand new windshield glass, glass seal, body/cowl seal, and all new wiper linkage. Everything there is in like new condition and the wipers function as they should. The roof rack parts are a Kargo Master Congo cage and Kargo Master 42" x 50" Bushman Steel Safari Rack. They are in excellent condition and have only been used once to tote a cooler. This is an extremely sturdy and high quality unit. There is some light surface rust beginning to form in some of the joints. The Hi-Lift jack and 4xRac High lift jack bumper mount are included in this auction. The high lift jack is the 48" model. The front bumper is a stock item that I modifed with some custom made D-Ring shackle mounts. The 3/4" D-Rings are included in this auction as well. The driving lights mounted to the front fenders are Dick Cepek units. The one on the driver's side currently has a burned out filament. The passenger side unit works perfectly and is extremely bright. These are wired up properly to comply with Pennsylvania state law. They will only operate when the headlights are on, and then only with low beams. This auction also includes an extra set of these lights, condition unknown. As seen in the pictures, there is a grill/radiator screen installed. The swing away tire carrier/bumper on the rear is a very well built sturdy unit, but I am unsure of the brand. The tires are 33x12.5-15 BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A's mounted to black steel wagon type wheels. The spare tire is a 31x10.5-15 All Terrain T/A. All of the tires are in excellent condition and have serious tread depth left. I would estimate that they have less than 1,000 miles on them. They have performed extremely well for me in every off road situation that I have put them through. The rear axle is an AMC 20 that has been upgraded with Superior Evolution one piece axle shafts. It has a locker, but I am not sure what type. The front axle has a Detroit Locker installed. The axles have been re-geared to 4.10:1 according to the receipts and documentation that I have on it. I recently replaced the slip yoke on the rear driveshaft with a brand new Spicer unit and Spicer u-joints that I purchased from Tom Woods custom driveshaft. At the suggestion of their technical advisor, I installed the unit with the slip yoke on the pinion end (as opposed to the transfer case end as it came stock). The suspension is a complete custom job according to the receipts that I have. The leaf springs are 2.5" wide which tells me that they were intended for a YJ Wrangler. What I can tell from the paperwork is that they are a 2.5" lift spring (possibly Rancho). The front frame rails have had adapter plates welded to them, I assume to increase the width. The shocks on all four corners should probably be replaced. They are a mix/match of brands and are probably all blown. There are JKS sway bar quick disconnects up front. A body lift is also installed, but I am not sure how much lift it provides, or what brand it may be. The front leaf spring shackles are designed to accept a tow bar. I am not sure of the brand. They are greasable. A tow bar that can be mounted in several configurations is included with this auction. The rear shackles are Teraflex Revolver units. They are very rusty. To be perfectly honest with you, I hate these shackles and if I was to keep this Jeep, I would replace them with a more conventional shackle. They do provide a substantial amount of flex in the rear suspension when driving off road, but I feel that they don't contribute positively to the on road handling of this vehicle. The interior has Mastercraft Rubicon seats up front. The seats are older, but they are still in very good shape with no rips or tears. The rear seat is a Bestop Trailmax 2 that I installed brand new about a year ago. It has barely been used. The rear seat belts are brand new as well. Up front, there is a lockable glove box with key and a Tuffy stereo security console with key. The dash itself is a full custom unit that I like very much. All of the gauges are Autometer Sport Comp and function as they should. Even the speedometer is surprisingly accurate. The stereo is a Kenwood unit and there are JVC component speakers mounted in the dash. It's a pretty good sounding setup even with the top down at highway speeds. All of the dash lights, gauges, heater controls and even the tilt steering column work perfectly. The engine is a 258 straight six. It has been rebuilt at some point, but I don't know how long ago. The only problem that I know of is a minor valve cover gasket leak towards the rear on the passenger side. The engine features Mopar Performance multi port fuel injection kit. The kit shares many major components with 1995 Jeep production parts. This kit retails for $2700. Everything works and the Jeep runs very well. It may be due for a tune up. Even though the engine runs smoothly, I have had some difficulty with it idling properly when warm. There is a K&N air filter and an Optima red top battery under the hood as well. The transmission is a 5 speed manual connected to the engine by a Centerforce 2 clutch. The clutch is in great shape, but the clutch pedal is stiff enough that my wife has trouble driving it. The transfer case is a Dana 300. Terms: I am requiring a $200 deposit via PayPal within 48 hours of the auction end. The Jeep must be picked up within 2 weeks of auction end and full payment of the balance will be due upon pickup. I will accept cash or a certified bank check for the balance. If you pay with a certified bank check, be prepared to go to my bank to have it verified before you can take the vehicle. If you live in Pennsylvania, we will have to go to the local title shop/notary to get the paperwork done. Taxes, title and tag fees are your responsibility. I have a clear title in my name ready to transfer. If you want to come inspect the jeep prior to bidding, please send me a message through eBay and we will try to work something out. I am located in the Mercersburg, PA area. The jeep is currently PA state inspected through the end of October and street legal, but given the condition of the front wheel bearings and the rear axle seal, I STRONGLY ADVISE YOU TO TRAILER IT HOME. Please ask all questions prior to bidding. Send me a message through eBay if you would like to set up a time to come and look at it.
