Vehicle Detail
What is unique about this vehicle is that it is ALL original, and ALL original features have been maintained. NOTHING has been altered. Vehicle looks the same today as it did in 1973. I have the original Bill of Sale, original owners manuals, original sales brochure, even original business card from sales person . Vehicle also still has the 2 original options included on the Bill of Sale - Radio ($70), Steering Wheel Cover ($4)! Vehicle numbers match numbers on bill of sale. Vehicle was sold in Portland ME at Morong Brothers VW in 1973. I bought it from a gentlemen with a large car collection in Cumberland ME in Aug 2010, an hour from Durham, NH. Vehicle still has original Morong placard on back of vehicle. Vehicle also has all the original stickers and placards in the front trunk. Vehicle also has original oil change stickers in door jamb and engine hood. I would classify the vehicle as close to mint as you are going to get for a vehicle that has not been restored. There is no rust or dents. There is one small chip the size of a nickel on front quarter panel. One of the chrome head lamp rims also is slightly dented from an apparent poor attempt to replace a bulb. Also, one of the windows has a crack in the plastic the size of a half dollar. That's it! Top is original and is in perfect shape. Everything is in working order, with the exception of the heater. The heating unit looks brand new, but I have not tinkered with it for fear of making things worse. When I purchased, I had brakes serviced, vehicle already had new Michelin tires. I also had the carb rebuilt as engine ran rough. Also had points, rotor, wires, coil, plugs, distributor replaced. I bought with 16,300 original miles. I put 1,200 miles on it the past 2 summers during Sunday drives, and have changed the oil 3 times. Vehicle drives very smooth and very tight, no shakes or pulling, even at 75 MPH. Always starts on first try. What attracted me to this vehicle is the incredible shape it is in and that it is all original, this was not a restoration project. Car sits in garage under a car cover that is included. Selling (for several thousand less than I have into it) as I have a kid in an expensive school, otherwise, I would love to keep. I will consider delivering on a trailer within a 400 mile radius of Durham, NH for a flat fee of $500.00
