This born & raised California example is the perfect alternative for anyone facing a rust-bucket restoration. While it’s always fun to amaze your friends and family with your metal working talents, why would you waste untold amounts of time and money that could be better spent on actually completing your project in less than a decade? The post cars are quite rare as their production numbers were extremely low. I actually like the wider sail panel on the post cars. I think the thin panel on the hardtop makes the deck lid look too long, but a lot of people love ‘em, so what do I know… The VIN indicates it is an original V-8 car. Looks to have originally been an auto, but it has a manual column, and clutch pedal installed. Has what looks to be a transmission hump out of a ’69 mustang riveted in, but this can be properly welded, or substitute a small patch panel to return it to an automatic, or buy a repro “hump” and run the shifter in the original location. Take a look at the floors (anything there is just surface rust) and under the hood (even where the battery tray sat), and you’ll see why using this as a basis for your project will save you a ton of time and effort. Is it 100% rust free? I wouldn’t want to go that far on a 47 year old vehicle, but it’s about as nice as you’ll ever find, and needs no panel replacement. The front sheet metal is gone, and if you don’t have a donor car, the fenders, hood, bumpers, and bumper filler are all available (reproduction) from Crites Performance Parts. The nice part is with the front sheet metal off, you can see there is nothing nasty lurking below the surface. This car already is fitted with a Crites deck lid. Also comes with the sail panel trim, quarter emblems, rear seat (front seat is long gone). The window stainless, as well as the windshield trim is all in excellent shape. There is a Ford small block of unknown condition or displacement (289, or 302?) in place, as well as a driveshaft (without trans yoke), and hard to find fuel tank. The rear end is a Ford 8” with axles and brake assemblies, but no center section. The tires are just rollers that hold air, but the wheels are some remarkably nice Keystone Raiders (14 x 6). PLEASE look at the pictures very carefully. They depict what is included in this auction. If something is not pictured, or described in the text, you can rest assured it is NOT included. The vehicle has a clean, clear California title (yes, the VIN matches the left inner fender panel, although the warranty tag on the left door is long gone) that is currently on a non-op, so no back fees are due from any potential California bidders.
